HabboxForum ~ is it time for a redesign?

Recently, I passed my three-year mark of being on HabboxForum - and I remember the day I signed up. A magnificent design, so simple yet so elegant, but now I just remember it as an ugly, out of date piece of CSS that has been here since the beginning of time... Personally, I think it's time for a redesign. Don't you?

Luckily for you, after a little chat with Garion about the design, I decided to do a little mockup, to make it *easier* for you to come up with a design. Heck, you can even use my design if you want!

all skinny the same size and easy to change because they only need to redo images, hate the way Habbox skins are wide

they even got one for Children In Need because they copied Habboxs idea and are selling VIP

Really? I don't give two monkeys about what ClubHabbo are doing to be honest - I think orange defines Habbox as being unique, and if you don't like the fluidity of the skins, don't take it out on my design ;)

And the tweaks, like the colours used for the buttons at the top, the colours used on the Habbox.com nav could be used, or the same colours for each forum etc. Also, the orange you used, you had two different colours, one at the top and then another for the forums. I think it would look better using the ''greenbg'' like it is on Habbox.com and more white instead or the two main colours being blue and orange.

The blue and orange are already in my design, and how do you know I'm not going to use the yellow later ;) Funny that, I was actually basing it on this LOL!

I get what you mean, but as I said the heads are just a place holder for something different, and that something can be decided at a later date :)

What colours do you mean? The text colour or background colour? The navigation shouldn't be colourful otherwise the eye is taken off the content.

What greenbg by the way? And where do you think more white should be? I tried adding white and it didn't look good :)

From them two images, and I know yours is only like a mock but from the first image there is alot more white, the orange isnt as much as a prominent colour.

So for the title things you think there should be a brighter half like the GUIDE SEARCH background? I'll try it if that's what you mean :) Also, a lot of white don't look good IMO, but I'll try it.

Not sure why you didn't just use 1/10 of that image, we would of got the hint :P Don't particularly like your example though, the text looks unuseable (as in, would have to be a font, not an image) and the colours are too in 'your face' and vibrant, and the Habbo heads have always been a bad idea - Fansites used that a few years ago, and it became unpopular after a year or two :P It's definitely something to think into though. HxF has never really had amazing skins :/

I have to agree - HxF has had really bad skins ;) Since everyone is like LIGHT SKIN NON HABBO PLS, I might just design one and scrap this idea :]

I was thinking this too. The pixelated habbos are just a placeholder though :) I can make a white/grey version of it if you want to see what it looks like ;)

We should update the style maybe something that matches that of the site and incorporating the idea of a top nav from the proposed style but I don't think we will do anything about this until we decide what to do regarding vBulletin 4.0 as this indeed will cause style issues.

I don't understand why forums remove skins. If you already have it and people like it and use it, why not keep it? I think a skin like yours could be added along with the current skin.

I was recently on ClubHabbo and I found it difficult to operate because I'm not used to their skins but I'm used to the Retro Blue skin on here and which icons mean what on posts etc, so if that was taken away I'd be gutted.

For all the pretty forums and sites I use, I think their all pointless. Habbox follows a tradition of not releasing 15 new versions a year (Like some fansites...) and just providing great content. Come back with this design in say 25-30 years and then it should be considered. That and do you want to be the one to tell Jin he has to fiddle with stuff that could break stuff that isn't already broken?

Personally I think habbox need to scrap the orange completely, It needs a new colour, Orange is too bright and tacky. The non-habbo forum skin is the best in my opinion.

Well the Management has to think before they give any design the go ahead, especially with vBulletin 4 coming, if they decide to upgrade, there will be no point in starting skins now as they break completley (i've tried importing older skins and trust me, they don't work).

However, if they are going to stay on this version of vBulletin for a considerable amount of time longer, then I think that a new skin should be made, but defo leave the Classic Skin be, I use it even though I designed a few of the skins on the site. It is Habbox Forum.

It's in the Beta stages at the moment, Habbox Forum won't upgrade till it's Gold at the very least, which will take us till next year due to the slow progress on it.

Also: Habbox isn't too fond of using template edits, however, I think due to the outdated looks of some of the styles, they should possibly be considered (as long as someone is able to maintain them). Yeah, VB4 may be coming out soon, but it could be a year before this forum moves to it, I don't think HxF should jump the gun and go straight to VB4, it could be a huge mistake.

I agree with what people are saying ''orange is the color of habbox!!!'' - no, not anymore, go look at www.habbox.com - it is no longer the tacky orange it was. Yes it has orange, but a nice orange, and a nice complementary blue color to go with it. Habbox Forums default skin is no longer going with the style of HxF, it does need to be changed IMO, it doesn't have any purpose anymore.

I don't think I'd be interested so much to Habboxforum if it wasn't for the classic forum skin. You're forum idea skin is terrible and I'd be totally put-off. I don't think I'd be interested so much to Habboxforum if it wasn't for the classic forum skin. You're forum idea skin is terrible and I'd be totally put-off. i think Favurotism w/e his name is does them for 10-25pound? i dont think thats hard to get when you have a userbase of over 30,000

We're already working on skins, and I also told Jin I would be happy to make my own, personal, contribution to a new skin if he decided to get a paid one.

Errrr do your research.... He did design one, just people didn't want much change back then. I tried to get he Image however he took it off his site. It looked a lot better than yours though.

I am all for a style update but not right now, all 3.x styles will epic fail on 4.x so it seems pointless to get styles made which will have to be redone in about a months time.

Though I will add this to Q1 2010.
