I love how Americans can invent holidays for pure consumerism lol.

Obviously we don't know your mother so can't really advise that well, your best bet would be to look at some of the things she already has and get something similarly styled - not the exact same of course but it's best to stick to her tastes so you can be sure she'll like the item as well as appreciate the sentiment

Well basically they take Halloween so seriously that it'll cost your life savings to make yourself look good, then they buy loads of nonsense for Thanksgiving, then after that they need something pointless to spend money on before Christmas so they invented another holiday with seemingly no origin

I believe Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and is the busiest shopping day of the year in the US. People have died in stampedes to get into shops lol.

Gosh, and there are people in the UK who think some holidays are too commercialised (Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc). This just takes the biscuit :S It's weird, we have Harvest here but it's not commercialised :P Infact, it's nearly a pure religious holiday to celebrate the bringing in of the harvest :O

In terms of religious significance one would imagine Easter to be more important than Christmas as pretty much everyone gets born but not so many rise up from the dead (although Biblically Jesus isn't the first to do so), it's just that the idea of presents from my Wise Homies got kinda escalated by greed

If "Jesus" ever comes back, I'll be first in line to see his maggot-infested, blood-dripping zombie state.

@FJ: Holidays are too commercialised, even over here. My parents tried to dissuade us from celebrating Mothers and Fathers Day because it was just another excuse to sell cards. Likewise, I'm really not interested in Christmas or any other religious holidays any more. It just seems anti-social to ignore them (due to commercialism).

The Harvest Festival isn't a holiday though? Hence why we always took food donations into school with us.
