I can only remember having one conversation on the chat, and that was about a month ago and it was a Content Design meeting. Glad to see that its gone and not cluttering up the bottom of the forum.

I never used it as it didn't work. It will never be the same as the shoutbox.

id of prefered a shoutbox to it anyday.
If we had a shoutbox we would have to make it so very exclusive.

The problem with the shoutbox is, too many people speak at once and its hard to have a proper conversation. Simple solution: dont have a shoutbox or a chat :)

The shout box ruled :P I'd definitely be pro adding that back - even on the exclusivity basis, though preferably not. - i hear dream chatbox is reasonably efficient?

Shoutbox was awesome, but exclusivity would make it boring and kinda difficult - it can't be for donators as that's a premium feature (though Habbo can shuve it up their chuff with alot of their ideas), having it for Platinum and higher would be a bit too exclusive, but from Emerald up it might be a bit of a mess keeping up with the discussions, but it depends how many there are really.

I agree. Shoutbox is the way forward. I never really bothered with that chat thing anyway, all it did was lag the forum.

Aye shoutbox for VIPs, makes MOTM & charity VIP and all that more appealing :)

Would be good if chat was for VIP members only, would make MOM look alot more appealing. Plus i am vip

I think that once people get used to it that a shoutbox wouldn't be too busy with just ruby and above. Perhaps gold but there are a lot of people at gold at the moment.

Just make it for Staff, VIPs, MOTMs, and Gold Members, maybe?
Shoutbox moderation is a bit of an issue also.

MOTM = Get VIP
so kinda removes the purpose in MOTMs bit :P

Moderation of it is an issue that can be solved.
Staff will be using the chatbox anyway, so they would easily be able to moderate it. IMO.

Report button on chatbox, use at your own risk disclaimer, moderation isn't really a big problem imo.

Shoutbox moderation is a bit of an issue also.
Profile infractions if staff see them. The chat was never moderated and that was there for an eternity.

Tbh the shoutbox would be an awesome idea and an easy one, I agree on basing it on ranks and everything, though some new members may feel alienated by this. Uhhmmm, well I think the issue of moderation is silly. You can only moderate so much, not everything can be locked down like fort knox.
I mean it'd be more mature members talking on the shoutbox, since they'd have been on hxf a bit longer... well, im thinking that way anyway. I think it'd be an awesome idea ;P

Mature members? Oh dear...

In other threads, everyone has been talking about making new members more involved. Surely cutting them off from a shoutbox too is another way of preventing that?!! A chatbox can be a good way for members to mingle with others! Shoutbox is no fun really if you only have 'mature' people (I use the term loosely! :p).
The issue with opening it up for all members would be that it would be overused and just be annoying and pointless, in my opinion. For example we currently have 82 members online and a conversation involving 82 people all talking at once would be a bit of a nightmare. The other issue is that newer members will be distracted by the forum itself and only use the shoutbox - which we do not want.
Inseriousity.

Not all 82 members would use the shoutbox.
It's true about taking the direction away from the forum and into the shoutbox though I suppose but that'd be the same for every member, newbie or not. Pointless having it in the end really :)

Or you could have multiple shoutbox, which anyone can join, but special ones become available the higher ranked you are? Some websites do this I think, a shoutbox for anyone, then when you reach a certain rank a new one is revealed which you can join (most probably will as it is less scattered) then up and up and up till you get a special one.

Apologies for my slow reply to this thread, it has took me almost a week to come to terms with the diabolical decision to remove the chat. Above all I am disgusting by the decision by the management to remove the Chat. It was obviously the core of the community, and without it I can't see HabboxForum lasting much longer, frankly the forum has got off lightly if it still has people going on it by the end of next week.
Clearly by the sheer number of threads in Habbox Feedback begging for the Chat to return and the harsh posts from members within this thread, there is clear support to bring it back.
Why weren't we consulted, there wasn't even a poll? Perhaps the management need changing around as I would rank this decision up there with the sacking of Catzsy and changes to the reputation system.
Btw the Facebook group to bring it back and petition will be up shortly.

Just as a few ideas about how a shoutbox may best be added, since many people wont actually use it, i'd say the best method would be to simply include a collapsed header bar at the top of the index page, which when clicked on, will open up in to a shoutbox (the onclick loads in the relevant js and content so no bandwidth is expended if its not wanted)
Shoutbox probably shouldn't display at all to guests or banned/cautioned members etc - possibly also those who haven't reached the 10 posts limit or whatever.
