Runscape computer hacker arrested

A hacker has been arrested for stealing players' identities, skills, weapons and virtual money in an online computer game.
In the first case of its kind, the 23-year-old man was held for hijacking hundreds of teenage boys' accounts to gain access to their hard-won virtual abilities.
The boys were taking part in RuneScape, a medieval fantasy game which has more than 100million players worldwide.

Don't see why this is news really, if the player paid for membership the hacker has stolen from him, he is being arrested for stealing, not hacking, otherwise the arrest is just plain stupid.

Police believe the hacker obtained password details through a so-called phishing scam where a fake internet page tricks users into handing over their personal information.

anyone who falls for that deserves to be hacked.

Is it really the first time anyone has been arrested for theft of Runescape items? I've heard of at least two cases of it with Habbo so I wouldn't call this 'the first of its kind'.

Depends how good the account is, i'd assume a max total account or near max for that much.

Seems fair, considering an account with that high stats would take a good few years to earn that much, with a reasonably good job with a nice salary you could earn that in a couple years.

They hardly willingly gave him their details, there were tricked by him into a fake site etc where he tricked them into entering their details.
