Team Fortress Classic (PC)
Reason - Played this game every single day from about 2005 - 2008, and it was simply amazing. The gameplay was immense, it was fun, I made loads of friends on there, and it just made me happy. Far better than TF2.
Zelda: Oracle Of Ages (GBC)
Reason - Played it many years ago, and just reminds me of all the best days of my life when I was a child, I know it sounds stupid! But yeah, amazing storyline, and just so fun! Zelda <3.
Pokemon Yellow (GBC)
Reason - Again, played it ages ago, and even the music takes me back to some really good memories. It was such a good game, and years ago I just played it non-stop. Classic games are always the best!

What do you mean real gamer? You don't have to like classic games to be a "real gamer" personally I get sick of classic games because they're repetitive

Yea I suppose, but thats just who I am xD I agree with you, but sometimes if you leave a game for a bit and go back to it, you can pass a level you were stuck on.

Of course alot of games can be repetitive but classic games generally get boring real fast, such as pac-man, tetris, frogger, etc. then the not so classic games like Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, I don't much get bored of some of the more recent games as easily as I get bored of those games, there are some exceptions though. Insults on the internet are pointless. It only takes a bit of common sense to figure that out. But then again, common sense isn't so common.
In my opinion Final Fantasy 4 demolishes any other game out there today. The top 10 best rated games of all time still to this day contains classics like Ocarina Of Time, Super Mario 64, Final Fantasy 7 etc.
I prefer those 3 games alone to most of the current gaming market.

They are arcade games that aren't made to keep you interested. I think Paul is talking more about games such as Super Mario Bros, the original Sonic games and other NES/SNES classics.

Games that built the industry that still hold par on today with their revamped franchises.
(i.e - Zelda > Zelda : Twilight Princess)

They're to keep you entertained, entertainment isn't gained through repetitive games, not to mention I wasn't answering Paul, although you did just mention a couple more games that I get bored of fast, the original Mario games were fun for some period of time but the new ones are lame, same as Sonic but I never really got into the original sonic games, basically the only levels I ever played where the green hills ones and couldn't bare to continue.

You quoted Wise and Wise quoted Paul so I was just going back to the source. Also, are you aware that the likes of Tetris and Pac-man are among some of the most popular games ever created. If they are repetitive and entertainment isn't gained through repetition then why are they up there? It's just a matter of preference whether you like them or not, but if you think about it video games still use the same conventions as they did back in the day. Sure they have expanded a lot, but it is still the same thing. The original Zelda can be compared to a more recent game like Shadow of the Colossus without any trouble, and Halo can be compared to Super Metroid on the SNES rather easily. Super Mario Bros can even be compared to Grand Theft Auto. Granted there is a lot more to do in GTA, but in Super Mario Bros you're always doing roughly the same thing, only the level changes, just like the missions in GTA. If classic games are repetitive, then so are todays games. It's really only the graphics that have improved, a lot of the gameplay is still the same.

But I was quoting what Wise said, not what Paul said. :S
And of course everything is still the same but what draws you to a game is how it is played, Halo 3 and Resistance are both built in similar ways to result in different games that use the FPS mechanic but how the game plays, what you do within the game is what makes it fun, if you're playing a very basic FPS like Doom, but instead of the way Doom was designed, the developers decide to use more of a quest based system and made pretty much every quest "go here collect this" and the monsters were just obstacles then it would become very boring very quickly, purely based on the fact your brain tells you that despite visually that you're doing is different every time it's also saying "well really every quest is to move from one location to another to pick up a different game model", most people playing games only really pay attention to the visuals, even when they know they're doing the same thing over and over again, which is why games sell, every game within each genre is basically the same as every other game of the same genre apart from the textures, models, audio and objectives.
Also Tetris, Pacman etc. are very popular because the objectives are simple and accessible to anyone that feels like playing, doesn't mean they don't get bored it's just those games have no specific audience and can appeal to anyone that feels like playing them, like Snake.
Edit - Also obviously it comes down to preference as well, some people enjoy those sort of games but at the end of the day the popularity is down to them being simple and easy to get used too, not much else.
Edit Again - Also the point I didn't really get across in that huge paragraph, or it you just didn't wanna read that, if a game reuses the same "objective" then it will get boring but remain simple to hold onto a large audience, if a game expands the objectives, like GTA4 then the audience isn't as big, although still big due to the fan base but that doesn't matter.

I haven't posted here yet because it's just too difficult lol.
Crash Bandicoot (PS1) - probably the first game I will have played extensively.
Driver (PS1) - don't think I've ever been more excited about getting a game.
GTA (PS1) - this game seemed like something magical to me when I was about 6 :P.
GTA III (PS2) - this one cost me a fair bit of money at the cyber cafe before I got a PS2!
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2) - I got this just before Underground was released and the whole NFS craze kicked off. Never played a better NFS title since (nor have I played HP1 yet actually).
Rayman (PS1) - just a genius of a game.
Driver 2 (PS1) - YOU CAN GET OUT OF YOUR CAR!111 AND THERE IS A HIDDEN MINI!!!
Worms Armageddon (PC) - I never understood Worms on the PS1 but this one was just perfect in every way and so much fun. Also better than any other Worms games I've played since.
Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec (PS2) - back then this was like a simulator!!
V-Rally 2 (PS1) - took up enough of my time for it to have to appear on this list.
