Hey,

When I turn my computer on and get this load up screen:

http://www.adminxp.com/windowsxp/instxp11a.jpg

It crashes and the bar just stays there. I dont get the blue screen and I get no noises. I have to repeatedly turn it on/off till it finally works. I had to turn it off about 15 times today untill it finally worked. I want to sort it because its pissing me off.

Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Stephen!

Easiest way would be to reinstall.

what about that? Or does it have any major disadvantages?

All it does is just replace the picture with text. Won't stop the crashing.

Tried to run any registry cleaners? Maybe they could help?

I had this problem on an extremely old PC. Several reformats didn't help, so it went in the bin :P

I installed AVG and it recognised some viruses. It doesn't crash now :) However it says productinfo.dll has been deleted on several occasions.

My old computer used to crash ALL THE TIME, I had to re-install like once a month.. it was because the tower was on the carpet and the static was doing something to the computer. I had NO problems with the computer it worked for a good 3 years after I put it on the desk...

Sounds like a loose connection that got put back when you moved it again, any static from the carpet would be sent back to ground..

I've had this problem before, it turned out to be a bad sector near the start of my HDD (Generally System files used on start up).

I fixed it by using SpinRite http://grc.com it fixes problems with spinning drives by detecting read/write problems and will either then attempt to fix it or flag it as unusable (it will attempt to recover the data before it flags the sector)

If you don't want to pay then I'm sure that some bay where pirates live will be happy to provide you with a cheapish copy.
