Initially depends on what you want it for, then when you know what you want a laptop for, you look for the specs to see how they match up.

Depends on what you do, gaming, coding, normal use...

2.2ghz dual core
2-4gb ram
150 - 1000gb hdd
dedicated gfx..

Thats just a usual laptop spec for what i do (everything)
