Could have a million pounds for the rest of your life but never earn any extra money would you take it?

Edited by Jamesy (Forum Super Moderator): Please keep thread titles descriptive, thanks :)

Million wouldn't last you a life time. I'm the kind of guy who enjoys a bit of graft so I'm going to say no.

soz about title, never seen that rule when the thread continues the title but cool. and yeah. i'm with you on that, i'd much rather work hard and see what life gives me rather than have it handed on a plate. that's just who i am, i guess.

if you have a mill in the bank couldnt you live off the interest?

Yes, I would. I'd buy an ample house that suited my requirements, additionally a car. Nice, obviously, but not over the top. The rest would go into the bank and it would cumulate interest. I would then spend my time volunteering, studying for probably a couple of degrees, a masters and a PhD without having to worry about money etc etc. I'd never spend ridiculous sums of money and I would carefully manage my money so it was always there :p.

Or I could just have fun, blow it and live the rest of my life a bum.

Nope.. you'd get a nice house and stuff but then there's the cost of living and stuff so once house/car/etc's out of the way then there's not that much left.. Suppose there's interest but couldn't you class that as earning money? Besides, it's boring not working, as everyone else's at work so it's crap.

I think I would rather work. I have loads of friends at work, and would miss them all :'( Being a millionaire would eigther be lonely, or the opposite with fake people trying to be your friend just for the money etc.

A milli a milli a milli a milli a milli a milli a milli a milli

Yeah I'd take it, as long as by not earning I can still "earn" interest. I'd do some fab calculations and stick nearly all in a high interest account or two and then just live comfortably but not luxuriously, treating myself every now and then when the interest mounts up :D

yeah if i did i'd have to keep myself busy at least two days a week like working in a charity shop or volunteering to work with less privileged children or something so i wouldn't feel like a millionnaire bum :P

I think I would rather work then just have £1million. But if I did have the million, I would pay all the bills and so on for my parents.

I wouldn't take it, technically if you buy a house, and the price of said house rises, you are earning, if you buy anything that will raise in value over the years, you are earning, bank interest, you are earning.

It'd be a very restricted life indeed.

i'm sorry but if i had a million quid and couldn't earn anything else, i'm not gonna go and give some of it away to charity :S:S

but yeah i'd take it and live a 'comfortable' life, with the occasional splurge here and there so the money lasts.

I'd agree with this if it was like growing up with rich parents and having everything handed to you, but if I was given this opportunity tomorrow I couldn't decline. Partly because it would make a hell of a difference to my family and probably because I'm just too lazy to say no to something like that :P.

I'm a fairly sensible spender and the interest would keep you going anyway.

From what I want to do, I could earn £1m over a few years so £1m for a lifetime wouldnt see me through.

Get you Joe. I don't think it's such an easy decision because I reckon you could live comfortably on a million. Get a place with no mortgage, could be in a nice area and a comfortable family home for 300K or whatever. Then you could live your current lives on £700,000 quite well if you racked the interest up I reckon. However, I still wouldn't personally take it for the reasons given above.

If I was allowed to invest it I would do it. I'd probably put it in a high-interest account for 5-10 years and then I'd begin investing it in businesses, then buy lots of houses and rent. Could make a fortune that way, and I'm pretty sure earning is only getting a salary from a job, investing should be okay? :P

I probably still would work, just I'd have the salary donated to charity and only work part time
