Hey, im looking to buy a computer for christmas and i was wondering if anybody could share some reliable and safe websites or something to get one? :P
Id like it to be around the £300 mark, but i could possibly go a little higher.
I'd like it to have decent memory etc, you know, the normal stuff lol and maybe a hdmi port if possible, not too fussed.
Its for my college work and stuff so yah, reccomend please? ;)
Thanks and +rep to good sites.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176488 (4gb ram, 500gb hdd and Pentium Dual Core E6300 2.8GHz)
+ a copy of Windows 7
Will put you just under the £300 mark :)
This assumes you have a keyboard/mouse and monitor etc

I recommend that too. ZooStorm PCs are very good value and you get quite alot with them. Just remember to buy it with an OS which is circled in the (BUYER RECOMMENDED) area :)

WAIT! Apparently that offer is for Windows Vista Home Premium, unless there's a free upgrade to 7 with it?
EDIT: Yep, there is :) Bit odd that they had an image of Windows 7 and then it mentions Vista underneath :P You get Vista, but an upgrade offer, so it's fine.

Erm it is a 22'' acer, £99. I will try and find it for you / the thread I posted.
Edit: this is the screen I got. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159417. It is now £122 but its a really good screen. Load time is about 4 seconds.

Ah cool, always good to see what other people are suggesting, so people can get an idea of what to get with their computers :)
I've got the Acer P193w, it was about £99 too, but it's a 19" one. Acer monitors are pretty good for the money, not seen any faults so far :D

I was going to buy that exact PC a month ago, but lack of money prevented me from doing so.
I do hope Acer monitors are more reliable than their laptops, though.

I have an acer monitor, its presets for films and text and stuff are pretty nice and the colours are nice and bright but the viewing angle isn't great.

Seems you're the only one so far with this opinion :P Besides, it opens up some interesting discussions :)

If you're willing to spend a bit more (well I suppose quite a bit more actually), you should spring for a macbook from apple (apple.com)! I grew up as a windows user but I got a mac when I went to uni as part of a special uni deal apple had going at the time I got a free ipod touch and printer with it. Anywho, I love my mac and got used to it really fast, and it's also still running almost as perfectly as the day I got it, which was over 2 years ago.

And about twice as much to spend if Apple's Student Offer section of the website is anything to go by :)

Yea but for mac money you could probably get yourself the PC, netbook, monitor and printer in to boot + have some cash left over. Apple and value for money just dont mix.
Win7 pc = 300
Eee pc 1005 he (10h battery) = 300
22" monitor = 100
decent printer = 60
= £760
Basic macbook
= £800
Equally on the windows end you could just go for one top end gameing pc for similar money :)
Also, ive run windows computers alot longer than 2 years, they still run perfectly too o.0

Sysinternals lends a helping hand, but it really aint to hard as long as you avoid bogging it all down by installing crappy software left right and center, fortunately the UAC in vista / 7 has stopped developers being so quick to dump the installation files all over the drives and run pointless services etc (even though its windows who gets the blame for the annoying dialogs when they do) :P

I seem to find Tune-Up Utilities a useful tool to stop that :) Not so much a useful tool on Vista or 7, more so on XP. A good bit of software for £30 or so (maybe less, I think I paid in dollars :P) Though there are Windows alternatives to what comes with it, defrag tools etc are all built into a Windows computer...
Anyway, mindless woffle.

I've ordered stuff from them many many times without a problem, they have excellent customer service and speedy delivery even on the free within 5 days option. I'm awaiting an order from them right now in fact, so i'd definatly vouch for em :)

If you use the within 5 days, then its luck of the draw within 5 day, i've had most stuff i've ordered within 1 or 2 days or ordering, but its not a guarantee. To order for a specific day it does cost a little more, but the further away the day is from when you order, the cheaper it is if i remember rightly (within a week timescale)
