Student's jaw blown off by gum

Ukraine - A Ukrainian chemistry student who had the bizarre habit of chewing gum after dipping it in citric acid, has been found dead with his jaw blown off.

The student's jaw was believed to be blown off by exploding chewing gum.

Officers found citric acid packets and a similar-looking unidentified substance, believed to be some kind of explosive material, on a table near the 25-year-old's body, Russian news agency Ria Novosti said.

Investigators suspect the student confused the packets and put gum covered with explosive material into his mouth.
What a way to go.

I still find this case really weird. You don't just have a cup of citric acid with another cup of something else beside it to just mistake them so easily :S

Isn't H2SO4 what the ocean would create if the gulf stream stopped, because it would have no motion or something, and its gas and itself is poisonous along with the water it exists in?

and at who said "why would he have explosive material outside a lab" does it say that on the link or here cause it sounds like he was in a lab here.

And he could have been creating an awshum rocket. We know whats going to have a rising death toll now, kids getting the jaws blown off doing the same thing, or terrorists taking some on a plane LOL. he dies leaving us with a descrete explosive, way to go.

Sulphuric acid. Burns skin on contact because it has such a high affinity for water.

It could poision your insides, make you extrememly ill........... or 'Blow ya jaw off' and he's 25? Need's to grow up. Obviously still thinks he's in elementary.

Citric Acid is basically what you put on your pancakes, last time I checked having too much with pancakes wasn't gonna do any more harm than giving you bad teeth, if you eat any sour sweets then there is a good chance citric acid is in that too, if you were dipping it in Sulfuric acid then you'll do some damage.
