So yeah, do you or have you ever had grommets?
For those who don't know what they are, they're like tiny cotton reels that go in a tiny insicion in your ear drum to regulate mid/outer ear pressure and to help regulate the flow of ear wax in the ear so it doesn't get clogged up and cause an infections. They're mostly used to reduce ease suffering for those with Otitis Media which is where the ear cannot regulate pressure and ear wax and as a result gets clogged up and causes infections etc., the grommet acts as an artificial means of regulating the pressure.
Examples (I've spoilered cause some people might not like the top image):

*Mine are blue :D*
For me, I think I'm up to my 6th pair, for which my current pair were permanent, but I've had one removed now cause my left ear really didn't want it there and was contracting the eardrum to get it out and caused bacteria to get in and causes terrible infections. The hole is still there and acts as a natrual grommet and hopefully wont close up otherwise considering there isn't any way of identifying whether you've recovered from Otitis Media (but it usually goes away with adulthood, hopefully ;)), there's a chance I would need a new one installed :S. My right ear is perfectly fine with it in though, never had an ear infection in it :D.
