Excellent start by England.

1.3 Broad to Smith, OUT, my goodness me, what a stunning moment for England, and what a breakthrough. Nothing much of a delivery, swinging gently down the leg side, but Smith tries to help it down to fine leg, doesn't get enough bat on it, and Matt Prior leaps like a rampant salmon to snaffle the first wicket of the series!
GC Smith c †Prior b Broad 0 (7m 7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

SA would be looking to get 300-350 atm. Anything less would be dangerous.

If England get 2 wickets early in the morning then it will be a very close game.

Seatherny

Well it now all depends on how SA bowl.

Not really, many Asians I know don't dislike the English cricket team. I dislike them for many reasons though but I have explained several times why that is and why I don't support them in general.

Mainly because you'd rather support India..........

Seatherny
17-12-2009, 12:08 AM
Nope, because I have supported India when I lived in India for 10 years so it would be a bit stupid for me to change just because of the fact that I live in a different country. It would be like Manchester Utd supporter who lives in Manchester moving to Liverpool and being told to support Liverpool, would never happen. I have supported India even when they did very crap for ages in 2006-2007, up until they won the T20 World Cup and since then BCCI have gotten very strict which has helped India immensely.

No it was an example, maybe not the best one, but I have used up all the examples but people still fail to understand.

South Africa 401/8 (146.5 ov)

South Africa are doing pretty well. If they can get early wickets when they start bowling, they will be in an excellent position.

Seatherny
17-12-2009, 03:37 PM
South Africa dropped Cook in the first over but got him out in the 5th over. They were 25/1 and are now on 67/1.

Seatherny
17-12-2009, 05:10 PM
Day ended with England on 88/1.

StefanWolves
17-12-2009, 05:24 PM
Going to be a close game, will probably end in a draw though.

Seatherny
17-12-2009, 05:29 PM
All depends on how many wickets SA can take tomorrow. If they can get some quick wickets then that might change the scenario. However it is looking like a draw at the moment but 3 days still to go.

Seatherny
18-12-2009, 06:53 PM
South Africa 418 & 9/1 (4.0 ov)

England 356

South Africa lead by 71 runs with 9 wickets remaining

StefanWolves

Still, very close. Pretty sure it'll be a draw (unless Englands batting collapses on the last day, which may be likely), or if SA collapse tomorrow.

Seatherny
20-12-2009, 09:50 AM
England 356 & 38/3 (23.3 ov)

KP just got run out on 81.
SA have just over 34.1 overs to get 6 wickets.

Seatherny
20-12-2009, 04:24 PM
England were shameful after KP's run out. Its a shame SA didnt manage to get the last wicket.

I think SA made a mistake not using de Wet in the last over.

South Africa are the best. Watch them hit 200 6's in 200 balls tomorrow and then bowl England out in 10 balls.

But no, SA are messed up right now. They have an excellent team but they seem to be playing crap right now.

it was funny as i was reading Greame Smith saying the collapse England had in centurion would have an effect here. :)

if England cant wrap this up then they dont deserve to win anything, only excuse i would accept is weather.

Tash.
30-12-2009, 12:14 PM
Wrapped it up quite effectively i'd say. SA all out for 133 after 50 overs, quite laughable really :P Swann got his 5 wickets and England won by an innings and 98 runs.

I got up at 8.40 to watch it, literally turned the channel on and the last wicket fell and it was over :( Gutted I was.

This test is gonna be very very close. SA fought back in the first innings, and so now are England. Even though I'm not in England to watch it I can tell by the scores & what I read on BBC Sports that it is a very good and close game, hopefully England win it though to wrap up the series. England had a solid start, and then the openers fell. 2 new batsmen at the crease.

Edit:

47.2 Steyn to Pietersen, OUT, got him! Huge wicket and an inspired bowling change from Smith. Full and Pietersen is playing across the ball, strikes him in front and there is no need for a review on that. Steyn gets the main man and England are tottering now!

StefanWolves

We beat Australia? we have won 2 of the 3 past ashes, we have beaten SA 2 times in the past decade (3 if we hang on in this test), we got the final of the CT cup when it was held in England. We were in 2005 regarded as the best cricketing team on the earth, from 2002-2005 we went on an 6-8 (can't remember) game test series unbeaten run, where we hardly lost a test.

People knock us because were not good in ODIs (which we are improving on, we beat SA for gods sake), but people don't look at the bigger picture, we are a top notch test side, one of the best at this moment in time (yes, I can say that, because we beat Australia, and we are beating SA, two of the top three best Test cricketing sides in the world).

Saurav, have you forgotten that we beat SA by an INNINGS?

I think SA just beat you by an Innings too just now :).

Overall SA were the better team in the test series and deserve to retain the cup.
However, England were undoubtedly the better team in the ODI series.

Runs don't lie. We deserved a draw, that's why we got one. I'll admit we have had a few great escapes, but the team who gets the most runs wins, so we beat them fair and square one time and they beat us fair and square. And so, a draw is the deserved result. Cricket's not like football, in which one goal can decide a match, in cricket it's hundreds of runs, so the best team on the day always wins, there's no getting lucky.

Yeah, I'd have taken a draw, fantastic really. Showed their grit, resilience and determination even when playing against the best side.

I would have taken the draw at the start of the series but after the second test we should have pushed forward and beat SA. Hey ho, pick ourselves up and hopefully a nice and series against Bangladesh but i highly doubt that will happem.

I want the CC season to be back on too :(

He wants a rest before the Ashes.
Cook will be the captain for the Bangladesh tour.

I've always seen Strauss as the backbone of the English cricket team.

He was the reason we won the Ashes in the summer.

No, Collingwood is the whole reason we won the Ashes.

Having seen the team, it's not that bad. I heard they were going to rest Colly but they haven't (unless they take him but don't play him in which case oh dear). If you've watched any of the SA test series you'll know that Colly was our best, most consistent player by a mile. And he's a gentleman, can't be a better cricketer.

Sometime next month got 2 games against Pakistan in Dubai first as well as game against England Lions.

Cook shouldnt be stand in captain he has only just found his form and i feel this is extra pressure not needed.
