Was it not you who defended Windows Vista in all those discussions:P? And I agree with you, Windows 7 is easily the best of the three.

Windows Vista is fine, it's just the idiots who jumped on the "OH MAH GAWD ITS CRAP!11!" bandwadgon because Microsoft decided to update the OS and it meant the third party developers actually had to get off their asses and do some work.
Either Vista or 7 IMHO, used vista for 2 years without a problem, now updated to 7.

I think that's your answer :P I've always hated vista, it ran horribly on my laptop and when I shoved the 7 beta on it it ran like a dream, even better than XP does. So yeah im not jumping on the bandwagon i actually want it erased from history for a reason :P

To be brutally honest, I think it's impossible to hate Vista if you love Windows 7. Windows 7 is better yes, however it's not that different. People who say that either have had a bad experience themselves or listen to the media too much.
I'm yet to use Windows 7 as my main OS, just tried it on a friends computer for now, but here's a truth bomb, I don't really listen to people when it comes to technology if they think WINDOWS 7 IS GREAT and WINDOWS VISTA IS CRAP.

He said it all to be honest. Either get Windows 7 or Windows Vista, both operating systems work and I've had no problems with Vista really either. So far I've had no problems with 7 as well. :)

Windows 7 (newest product of a series (OS) is probably the best if they had time to improve it and stuff).... :)

David, you are a Macintosh man through and through, I don’t think anything would convert you, not even if Bill Gates delivered you one personally.

Why get vista over 7? Even if you believe Vista performs fine, there's no need to get an older and more expensive version!

The owner might be fussy though. ;) Of course I would fully recommend Windows 7 to anyone, its the best Windows yet.

Like others have said. XP is stable, but lacks the compatibility and "workability" to Windows 7, which is equally if not more stable than previous Windows operating systems anyway.

I don't think I'd be able to find suitable drives for XP with a new PC anyway.

When it was just XP, installing anything required installation CDs, while Vista and 7 are good enough to find any sort of driver themselves and quickly. XP never really had nor does it have compatibility, it relies on CDs and the miserable sack of flesh to do everything for it, while the other two get on and do what they have to while the miserable sack of flesh behind the computer got on and did what they wanted to do :P Plug and play never really existed, only for things like keyboards and mice - simple things like scanners and webcams needed the CD to even get recognised by the OS. Vista nad 7 just chuck around generic drivers and sends out a Windows Update to find the official drivers and installs them whenever it does its update and install procedure. I noticed this with network printers, 7 and Vista find them and install appropriate drivers, while XP makes a chore out of the whole thing :P
So in short, XP is out-dated and relies too much on a user input, while Vista and 7 like to have things plugged in and playing. The only thing I've found that doesn't immediately work are Sound Card drivers, like the Creative X-Fi range, and network adaptors, but they're easy to find and once installed they don't always need to restart. XP does and still does it seems :/
EDIT: Just remembered, network printers install on XP, but it requires the CD to use the driver exact. Vista needed you to select a printer/driver, and 7 just finds one itself.

I would say Vista or 7. As Tom and Matt have said, I have never had any problems with either of them but I do remember one time when I put XP on my vista laptop and the laptop kept crashing freezing BSODing, the works, but was perfect in Vista. I even installed drivers from Toshiba website but nothing helped that XP install to run stable, even Linux could run more stable than XP.

Well no-one is saying there's anything majorly wrong with Vista, they're just saying you might as well go with Windows 7 seeing as it's the new Windows OS which is an improvement on Vista.
