I love the way everyone is saying "his dreams are shattered". He's on a million pound contract for God's sake. His life is just going to get better and better. Silence.

At talent, they clearly aren't.

And yeah, this was a pretty selfish thing to do.

Lol
If it was about talent, then why are ratm so famous lol.
It's not all about singing.

How is it selfish? Joe sold more records than he would otherwise have done. And I'll bet his total number of records sold is still really high even if RATM did beat him.

If you win the X Factor, you automatically get a xmas number one, all other artists are overlooked. - That's selfish.

Joe should have been number one. He deserves to be.

No he doesn't.

And you're saying a song that people don't particularly like, they only voted for it under the condition that it will remove the X Factors song off the number one spot DOES deserve to be?

whats the big deal about this rage of the machine or what ever it's called?! I heard their song on radio 1 and it was a pile of cat poo.

much prefer joe as number one, even tho im not a fan of his.

Joe's song is only in the chart because he was on the X Factor. The X Factor is set up so it finishes a week before the Christmas charts are announced, and almost guaranteeing the winner a number one. Do you think if Joe sang that song without going on the X Factor he would have even been in the charts? There is no competition for proper songs, people are given some cheesy Miley Cyrus cover.

I personally don't like Rage Against The Machine, it's noise to me. I would have preferred Fairytale of New York or something, but it's pushing X Factor from the number 1 spot so it's fine by me.

So to answer your question, yes. :)

At last the reign of Cowell being number 1 is over :D

It just shows that a lot of people are annoyed with X Factor being at number one since Xmas 2005. Not everybody watches the pile of rubbish that is X Factor. All X factor winners disappear after Xmas anyway and then coincidently appear back on the scene just as the next series of X Factor starts.

Good on RATM even though I don't like their song but Joe's song wasn't all what it hyped up to be.

Although it's bad news for joe himself, his life is still looking good right now. All this really is is a kick in the teeth for simon cowell.

Utter tripe. Take Simon Cowell down by buying a song on the record label he works for, very smart idea.

So well done to all the sheep that followed whatever dumbarse thought of this idea.

And yeah, this was a pretty selfish thing to do.

Firstly, if you disregard Zack de la Rocha (as I imagine what you actually mean is that he's not a better singer), I would still say that collectively Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk are a lot more talented than Joe McElderry.

Surely this whole thing is the immediate opposite of selfish? :S Look at how many people can now benefit from Killing In The Name winning with all the money it raised for charity, then look at the few big boys who would have made a few more millions in their back pocket had Joe McElderry won. You can't really complain.

Surely the right way to look at it is just that people have got sick of the inevitability of the charts and made a good show of democracy that should surprise the industry. I think this display of solidarity is optimistic and it shows that the people won't always acquiesce. When it comes to bigger issues it's nice to know from episodes like this that people can still care enough to register their opinion. The fact that KINTN was the song picked by some random guy making a joke about the Christmas #1 chart is just that it's a token of rebellion and a general subversion of the typical genre, I wouldn't read too much into it.

The only case against this is that a song shouldn't be used for a purpose that might (though in this case I don't think it particularly does) infringe on the artist's intended meaning. But once a song is released into the public domain, it has to be accepted that the song is now the property of the individuals listening to it, and they can attach emotions to it and interpret it how they will. Maybe you'll disagree, but I find it very compelling.

(gives dollar, got 98¢ change? :P)

What is the point for millions of people to waste their money for about 4 months when the show is on for the person who they voted to keep in every single week to disappear and record ONE album to then come back at the summer to say 'Ta Da! Remember I was voted X Factor winner last year!' to then have about 4 months worth of fame and then go downhill.

I won't be liked very much for this probs but Leona's songs lately have been so damn depressing and Alexandra's latest song is not too great either..

Btw cheers for calling me an idiot when I actually remember the first time reality TV with Simon Cowell was actually on the box :) Have a nice Xmas!

Wow you really are an idiot because that wasn't even close to why I called you that..

As for the songs, firstly, have you heard either of their albums? Probably not because you'd find they're not depressing, and not rubbish.

Simon tries to give the artist the best shot they can, and to do that, he normally tries to get good writers to wrote new songs for them, and they also have a schedule, and then make the song by adding music. Then they have to edit, re record, edit, record, edit, record etc etc. Do you not realise how long it takes to put a good album together? If he aimed to hav an album out by march, it would be rubbish, and he'd fade away. At least this way the winners have a chance in the Market..

Selfish?

What's so selfish about donating profits to charity? Joes money would just go to his pocket whereas RATM's went to a good cause. This wasn't set up for money or anything against Joe but it was a good dig at Simon Cowell.

Josh I don't think she's the idiot lol. The only song I've heard Leona Lewis sing which wasn't depressing, is Stop Crying Your Heart Out which she robbed from Oasis. In fact, she even made that depressing tbh. And don't talk **** about how long it takes to put a good album together when most of the songs I've heard her sing are covers. The fact is, the official UK chart says Killing In The Name is better than The Climb so deal with it :P.

thats just a few that ive bothered to search for.. Most of the songs youve heard her sing are either unknown covers or ones that have been released as singles like 'Run'.

All the chart tells us is that more people bought Killing in the name than the climb, it doesnt tell you how good one song is to the other. Otherwise you'd see other songs in the chart.

The covers I've heard are all very well known by their original artists.

I only said the chart says it's better because if the tables were turned and I came along trying to say what kind of music was best, I imagine you'd tell me it's not, because it's not in the Official UK Chart (at the top).

bleeding love was a cover.. (at least i think it was)

no because as i said before, music is subjective and changes with everyone, and with their personality, mood, weather etc.
