Although looks like you splashed out on a wireless N router :P When i move to my next uni house though i'm considering buying a gigbit switch which should give me a bit of a speed boost in the wired section :p
you should try the network storage idea though, all you need is an old pc and bigish hdd, share it to the network and u can just dump files on and off - its generally faster than usb (even with wireless) and a lot less hassle as you dont need to go find a flashdrive :p

I bought the Linksys WRT160N-UK Rev.1 and I also have a 100MBit switch in my room for extra PC's and ps3 etc.
I would network a PC but I don't really have a spare one at the moment but even if I did, I have no extra plug sockets for it :P

Yea, plug socket fu is needed, i now have 2 8 way breakouts, and 1 10way :p (along with the normal *6/*4 ones)
Kent uni auctions off its old pc's so you can get em uber cheap if you bid right (p4/2.0ghz/512ram = 20£)

Lines to and from wireless icons shows where the wireless is coming from and going to, the lines with out a wireless icon is an Ethernet cable. I'm not sure about the exact model of my dads computer or laptop, my laptop is black not gray and wider and my mums laptop is rubbish and XP so that is why there is a rubbish thing next to it.

What's with the wireless craze? Hard wired ethernet is much better. I'd much rather 100Mbps ethernet than wireless N even.
I want my desktop hardwired, but I don't think it's going to be possibe due to laying the cable etc.

Hmmm, you've got a point... The printer is sitting right next to the router and it could happily get plugged in, and if I wanted to put effort into it, I could put a cable from here to downstairs seeing as I'm right above the router :P
Is a wired connection generally better than a wireless one in terms of internet? Ethernet and networking isn't too big a deal in this household.

It generally depends on how far away you are from the router and on wireless the speeds can vary. Ethernet you are guaranteed a solid 100Mbit connection Unless the cable is broken

You're probably not going to notice a difference, but I would because I'm fussy :P.

Too much hassle for me to wire it really, need at least a 100m or longer cable to make it possible :P
