It's pretty hard to find two people who can pull of the characters such as Violet and Veruca, as they are very demanding rolls. So I do prefer the original film.

The reason it disapointed me, was that it went against the book a little, for example...the oompa loompas, and the ending.

I did enjoy it, although the original is much more enjoyable, the modern one is much more funny, but overall the original is better, they always are.

The oompa loompas had a much better music background than the original...

It was better than the original overall, it was wittier, some plot holes were filled such as why Willy Wonka was...like Willy Wonka, and showed a bit more of the oompa loompa land...

They "killed off" the children too quickly and there was less signing on everyones behalf.

Apart from that it was good :p

oh except the bit in the original where Willy Wonka first appears, there is red carpet and he staggers out and falls into a somersault type thing..

I think the new one is better for older audiences, because the old one is really light-hearted and fun.
I enjoyed both, they are both great movies.

Oo I went to see this yesterday! It was really good. I think some elements of it are better in the original but I think I prefer the new one. The graphics etc make it better as in the first they didn't have that very good... I love this one though and Johnny Depp does such a fab job! The character is just perfect xD

I saw and i thought it was good but the original feels special for some reason, it feels more amazing and fairytale like. Maybe thats because of the music. I think in the new one the flashbacks of Wonka's childhood is good coz this sticks to the book, i also like the new Oompa Loompa's and the squirrels!

No one should ever compare it to the "original" because this IS an original!
It was never intended to be a remake - it's just an adaptation of the book, and it's actually more like the book than the older willy wonka!
I am the BIGGEST Tim Burton fan possibly in the world! His work is so visually stunning, it really amazes me, and this film didn't disappoint!
I think Johnny Depp did an incredible job as Wonka, so surreal, very Burton-esque!
I also love the earlier Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, mainly because I love Gene Wilder!
I'm sorry my post is so long, I tend to rant about films (that's what happens when you become a film student :( )
Anyway, in short, don't mix up the two films, it's not a remake!

I liked the film personally..
I've never seen the orignal or read the book so this was a FIRST for me.
I think it was good, sure slow at times and weird at others but hats off to Tm Burton.

What the hell, it's better than the original? How can you say that with Depp spurting completely bleedin' random stuff like the huge thing he goes through about beards (well, beatniks for one. Then there's bikers, and all them funky cats etc etc...) and the way he would appear completely honest and so surreal at the same time ("Oops, excuse me I was having a flashback").

Glad to see that the Burton-Depp killer combo is together once more for the upcoming Corpse Bride (which bears more than a small resemblance to the Nightmare Before Christmas).

I know it's normally gals who say this but:

I LOVE JOHNNY DEPP! AND THE DUDE WHO WROTE HIS SCRIPT!

No you fool, I'm not gay. I love him in the way men (NOT GAYS!) hug each other.

My favourite part of the film was when Wonka- donning the freaky brace- walked through the Hall of Flags. Very good.

The Umpa Lumpa's aren't as good, but I like the ending when they walk out, all the other kids, and the blueberry girls has super powers lol..

At the end after the movie, me and my cousin where the only ones left in the cinema, so we had a little fun.. We both had bottles, from our leftovers of drinks, so we had a star-wars battle.. LOL!!

Running around the cinema jumping off chairs fighting eachother, I tried to throw the bottle at him but I hit his dad instead :S

Did you notice the fat kid who wins the first ticket is ANIMATED?! Also Johnny Depp played Willy Wonka rubbishly, the old Willy Wonka actor was much betetr. Johny depp ruined it :(
