Post icons instead of text?

In some forums, especially in Anime and other Entertainment, there is the post-prefix little tab which you can pick out anime or books. I think the text added is ugly and it really looks bad, so can you think about changing it to an image instead?

I think the images will make the forum neater and more presentable :)

I think it'd be good because there'd be less clobber. I think just replacing the post icons with newer ones and removing the prefix would be better though :)

Yeah I think they would look messy and a bit slapdash, I've not been a fan of them on other forums. Plus we would have to be put through the trials of making sure they look good on every single skin etc etc.

My point is though, it's kinda obvious that it's Big Brother business so why would you need prefixes in the first place? And you make the point clearly, it's temporary usually therefore you can always use 'Big Brother:' at the beginning anyway and it's a waste of time making image versions for use for all of 1 month (And only one more big brother to go).

Images are far more unnattractive than prefixes tbh, unless you manage to make them all co-ordinate with not only each other but every single skin you have, which frankly won't happen

How will random little images be neater? The prefixes are very neat and at least there's a 0% chance of misunderstanding them. If you use random images nobody will know what half of them are.

The prefixes were designed to replace subforums and to help with searches since you can search by prefix in the advanced search thingamabob (does anyone even do that? :P). At a time where we're trying to cut down on forums, getting rid of them and making subforums is mental imo.

I like the idea of pictures though, if we're trying to modernise the forum having text representing things rather than images seems a bit old fashioned.

I prefer chip's idea of just getting rid of them. If people can't tell what a topic is about from the thread title then it probably comes under rule A.16.

You cannot interchange them between themes without modification. If it was possible that means you then have to make 4+ icons each time you need another icon.

Oh no please don't get rid of prefixes all together :(. Yes I sometimes use them in searches and yes they are better than just relying on thread titles in sections with many specific topics.

Sure it could help modernise the forum once other things happen too, but not at this stage just by itself. If you make a random little change like this it'll stick out like a sore thumb while the rest of the forum is still stuck in the past, comparatively.
