View Full Version : Neglecting the gym.
Hey I joined the gym mid november and was really enjoying it going up to 5 times a week with my dad as my 'workout partner'
Anyway with it being christmas and all that my dad hasn't been wanting to go or tells me we'll go tommorrow.. and it never happens!
Because of these unforseen circumstances I havn't been to the gym since christmas eve.
I've still been dieting, well if you could call it that ( I just eat 3 small meals a day with no snacks)
I'm definately starting back up at the gym, tuesday night at the latest, but will my almost 2 week hiatus have any negative effect on my progress?
Also, I can never motivate myself to go to the gym alone but I'm always pushing my dad to go, anyone have any tips to make it more bearable to go at it alone?
I've been alone once and I spent an hour and half on cardio then showered and went home 'cos I couldn't be arsed with weights :(

A break is always needed to muscles to grow, shouldn't affect it too much.

Do you listen to music when you go with your dad or do you just talk to eachother? If you're alone then maybe bring an mp3 player and just listen to an album while you work out. It'll help pass the time and get you pumped up.

I always miss what you say dammit. Every ******* time. roidrage.
Back on topic, Sly, you really need to get used to going to the gym alone. I know you aren't saying you're scared, perhaps you get such a great amount of motivation from going with your dad that when he isn't coming you don't feel it's worthwhile? In that case you need to motivate yourself. If you can make going to the gym at the same time, on the same days of the week for a month or two you can make it a habit. It really does become much easier beyond that point. You don't feel embarrassed at the gym do you - because if so, just think of all the fat muppets that are going to the gym right now during the new year resolution period.
If it makes you feel any better the gyms are swamped atm with people who will leave when they realise that 1 month of moderate exercise with a ****** McDonalds diet isn't helping them.

Yeah, as Paul said, a break is needed for muscles to grow, and 2 weeks isn't that bad. :)
music and our machines have a TV in them so you can watch LOL! just find something to do i spose and i you just think it's doing you well then that could be motivation in itself :)
