I don't care if you guys hate me for saying this but I respect the old IRA, I don't respect those today as they kill innocent people. Back in the day the IRA were good people who fought for valuable reasons. Over the past few years the IRA has changed dramatically, they don't fight for good reasons anymore, for example the lisbon treaty, they done **** all to stop that. If the IRA from at least 5years ago were around there would have been havock over the lisbon treaty.

Well I made this thread to ask does that really make me a bad person? if so I'm a bad person. I'm not gonna change my opinion on the old IRA just to be liked. Yes the majority of replys will most likely be insulting as theres what? 5 users from ROI present on this forum?

Hate me if you want I'm just being honest, what they do today is 100% wrong and I don't agree with what there doing.

I don't have anything against what they originally set out to do, but it doesn't make sense any more and I don't really understand them now.

I thought they got officially disbanded a few years back and those who pretend to fight in their name now are seen as an abomination

The originally IRA who fought for a United Ireland against the British Army and had no intention of harming civilians in my opinion were okay. I see that war as a typical war just as the one in Iraq. But what they have done in the past few decades I disagree with. The IRA have sorta' disbanded but they are still branches active, PIRA, RIRA etc.

Wow on Wiki it says the IRA was active from January 1919 – March 1922 so I don't have a clue now lol.

Thats the original IRA that was active during the war of independence. The groups active nowadays are the Offical IRA, PIRA, CIRA and the RIRA.

Ive spoke to a few ex provos and all of them left after the pira called an end to armed resistance.

I think what Irish nationalists forget is that Northern Ireland wants to be a part of the United Kingdom. Although what you said about the Lisbon Treaty is right, they'll fight against the British (the ones who saved all of Europe and the world in general from European dictators) but won't fight against an utterly corrupt, unwanted organisation which past USSR leaders have compared to a new Soviet Union in western Europe.
