View Full Version : Welcome Forum auto thread closing

Half of the threads I can find in the welcome forum have been simply bumped from the middle of last month (And Before) by Narnat, I thought there was an auto thread closure thing on the forum for inactive threads, it's a bit silly to be frank and it means that people who have just joined end up with their thread halfway down the list because obviously you stop from the bottom and go down when you want to spam a forum.

The rest of the threads have had more replies to them, despite from being from the middle of last month.

It doesn't autoclose mods close the bumped threads. I've noticed they have been slighty lazy recently though.

Again:

Leaahh. and Kyle, have done the classic 'post in every thread, of course it's not spam it's welcoming users with the same robot monotone speech'

Not sure if it's possible to do it automatically but it would be a good idea for the welcome forum.

I'll take a look in there now though, would be handy if people could report bumped threads though please?

You could always prune the threads? Also this is my way of reporting, you're more likely to be looking at the Feedback forum than the MCP.

I'm on the mobile skin so it is a little annoying, but a thread called something like "furni disappearing" should be closed.

I just took a look and don't see a problem really.

The earliest thread that the particular user you mentioned had posted in was last posted in on 30th December before her post.

Moderation department class bumping as:

Posting in a thread after it has been inactive for 14 days or more.

None of that is bumping and tbh I don't see it as a huge problem with the hindsight of looking at that.

it's within the rules

But it doesn't look welcoming to new users...

No it isn't, see thread at top of welcome forum :)
If you believe anybody is spamming the welcome forum with the "C&P a message" system, ensure you report it :)

Why are people so opposed to others posting in these threads? If I was to sign up and post in there all over again I'd be happy that my thread was being acknowledged over and over again. If they're "bumped" which they aren't, then it will be dealt with by a moderator and the thread closed. What do you expect people to post, it's a forum to welcome people so it's only apt that the posts are going to be similar. I'd find having any amount of posts of "welcome, enjoy your stay =]" more welcoming than nothing at all.

All post reports get a thread automatically created in a post report froum. Its actually even more likely that SMODs will be looking there, which they do as soon as they see a new post report has been created.

I like this idea but you will get a lot of new users not knowing whats going on and thinking that all their threads will be closed.

My way of locking those in that forum was if they reached the second page or the threads were bumped after around a week and a half. Although the mod limit is now two weeks.

That way by the time it goes to the second page it shouldn't make an effect like Akaz mentioned above.

I agree with whoever says posts shouldn't count in that section. If people stop welcoming other people because of that, can't we do what was suggested in another thread and get staff to post welcomes?

For god's sake is this really an issue? Like Jake said all messages are going to be the same anyway. Threads should be locked after 2 weeks to avoid people bumping (like proper bumping not just replying to a thread thats 2 days old) but yeah there are bigger things to get upset about!
