Ok, there has recently been a feud between Australians, of which I am one, and Americans, of which I thank god Im not every day over a KFC advert aired in Australia. Is it racist? Isn't it racist, why and why not? you can see the video by visiting the following link to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_StDMpVhDk
It is so big it has made the news in both countries. Please tell us all your thoughts and dont scared to comment on youtube!
I would also like to post a link to another video on the same topic showing why I believe Americans are hypocrits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKbXgkKaeR4

Is this the one about how the Aussies give the West Indies some chicken because they were losing the cricket? If so, damn its not racist!

I can only suggest it would be deemed racist because the white man who is among a crowd of black people calls it 'an awkward situation'. I don't see how it's cricket-related nor do I see why Australia wouldn't want America to see it - I mean why is it offensive to Americans in particular? Surely it's racist to any black people?

It isn't intended to be racist though, its called an awkward situation because the KFC adds are shown a lot during our summer cricket, and it just happened that at the time we were playing against the WI.

That sounds pretty plausible and it's no surprise that the people claiming it to be racist are taking it out of context. It's two cricket teams, right? So just because one happens to be black, it doesn't suddenly make it racist. The advert could make the same point with two white teams. But then it would be racist for showing a whole group of white people without a single black person :rolleyes:.

I don't get why this is battle between the Aussies and the Yanks though. If there's a problem, it's KFC who are to blame. They don't represent the USA.

The USA think it is racist because the west indies (i presume they think they are africans) are being taunted/showed food and they don't have much over there. Its some ******** like that.

If anything it's racist to the black people in that ad. (dunno their nationality)

How is this racist? The only people that see this as racist are racists. The facts are:
a) KFC sells chicken
b) KFC has big ties to cricket (a very popular sport) in Australia, where the advert was aired, with large advertising rights
c) West Indies and Australia have a big (but healthy) rivalry when it comes to cricket. So KFC decided to make an advert about the topics above which is normal. It's not like they are gonna make an advert about sandwhich's at a ping-pong match between Australia and some country that they've never heard of.
Also, as I started off, the only people that see this as racist are partially racist because all the Australians see is that there is two teams, one team (the Australian team) is obviously losing, this is obvious because the Aussie seems depressed and the W.I's are celebrating (which they wouldn't be doing if losing). So what does he do, he pulls out the product he is paid to sell, this porduct is conquincidentally fried chick (and believe me, Australians had no idea of the Stereotypical and racist icons of the US where only black people eat fried chicken) and makes friends with the opposing teams supporters and he seems happier because they're all calm now and they're all mates.
Now the Yanks see this as racist because they di-regard everything to do with the cricket as they have no-idea *** that is, they dont see these dancing black men as west indies, just dancing black men, and last of all, in their country fried chicken is what the black man eats so all of a sudden they go ****!!! RACISTS, RACISTS!!! which is an ok first reaction but then they SHOULD read into it a bit more and realise that we are two different cultures.
The Americans excuse is now, "well, why didn't you want it shown in the US if it's not racist" first reason, it would cost money to advertise KFC and cricket in the US and would have a fruitless return, and second of all, and the major point is, that We all knew that the Americans dont know enough about our culture and would see it as racist because they are ignorant and think that all of us Australians would know what fried chicken and a black man means, and believe me, we do now!
So, as you can see, this isn't racist to anyone but the americans, and it doesn't even involve them, they just involved themselves like always when they shouldn't, see what happens? A fight breaks out, and America has almost destroyed ties with one of the last nations in the world who's general population still likes them.
HINT: Next time, check up on what the ad means in the culture it's being aired in and not yours, especially when it's not targetted at you.
Also, I would like to add, there was a similiar add by KFC in which the same actor invites his friends over (this commercial can be found at KFC.com.au) to watch the match and how does he stop these stupid, fat white men from interrupting the game all the time for food? He moves next to a KCF resturaunt but all of a sudden the Americans forget this completely because Fried chicken don't mean shiet when white people are eating fried chicken in the US (where as in Australia we dont see chicken as a mighty symbol of racism used to cause oppression, over he we see it as... Food! No matter what race)
Now can you see why the US is more racist? Because all they see is Blacks and Whites, whereas we saw two seperate cricket teams...
The funniest thing is even if the ad was racist (which it's not) I've worked out this formula:
Ad = Racist
Ad by KFC
KFC = Racist
KFC = American
Therefore, Americans should stop calling Australians racist when A) it's not racist and B) if it was, it's their own fault.
Not to mention the amount of discriminating, racist and stereotypical views of Americans made in the video about the ad. I mean, Australians we're depicted with "Throw a shrimp on the Barby" "Calm down, Mate!" and other Bull crap, and the americans were bagging out the West Indies as they were callin them a "Roudy" and "Uncivilised" when that is truly how they act at a cricket match, and theres nothing wrong with that.
Then that Ana girl (the ***** obviously in the video) tries to cover her arse by saying she never insulted Australians and called them Racist yet in the first her first comment right after watching the ad was "Thats Australia!" After watching an ad she thinks is racist she says, That's Australia, as if Australia is Racist.
Ohh, one last thing, have you seen that Two and a Half men episode when Charlie take Jake to a Cluckies for chicken and they are the only two white people in there, and theres like a black gangster starring at them, and charlie yells at jake and the whole place goes silent and stares at chalie and he's like "... Sup?" Yeh... That never got mentioned as racist did it? Typical Ignorant, Hypocritical, American ** where they try and spread their culture and views all around the world and don't look at their own faults

Calm down dear its only a commercial.

I don't think its racist, if anything its being multicultural, a way to sort it, ask the actors in it if they think its racist then you'll have your answer.

As if KFC would ever put a racist advert out on purpose, its been taken out of context and people are making alot of noise over pretty much nothing.

I just watched that... it's not racist at all, and I'm sure the people who made the advert didn't make the 'racist' connection between black people and fried chicken because it is stupid. The point of the advert is that this guy is stuck in a match in the middle of loads of kinda rowdy fans, who just happen to be black, and he gives them KFC to settle them. This is meant to promote KFC, not make a racist pass at black people. The other team could well have been white.

I really hate society nowadays when **** like this is deemed racist.

it's not really racist. these americans don't understand this... fans would only be like that if they are winning in cricket...

this is ridiculous...

they're from the west indies so they're going to be black...

maybe this is some sort of cultural thing i just don't or can't understand.
