Ok well, i had a referral link in my signature a few days ago and ive only just got round to posting it. Its not a big issue, but something which seemed a bit silly to me.

Right, heres what i want to say, its a copy and paste job from a PM i sent MattG

PM1:

Hey Matt,
I received a PM from *REMOVED* over my signature. I looked through the rules and couldnt find one as apparently we're not allowed to post referral links. He also gave me a usernote. Now, i do think i remember seeing that we're not allowed to trick people into clicking referral links, but i dont see what the big deal is if you clearly state that its a referral link. He linked me to this post you made: http://www.habboxforum.com/showpost....43&postcount=6

Now, thats ok, for people who saw that. But i didnt. You said, 'They will be moved from public view and nothing else'. So why have i received a user note?

As i said i cant find this rule in the FAQ or Rules unless im missing something, and it appears *REMOVED* cant either. It should be either updated into the rules, and/or changed so you can post, but you cant trick people, which i think is personally better because some people might want to refer people as a kind gesture for finding a good site. I mean, HxF even has a referral system, so its pretty hypocritical dont you think?

Received PM:

You should of only got a PM regarding it and that's about it. Its not fully in the main rules but its classed as a rule. Maybe we need to add that in somewhere to make it much clearer. I have deleted the usernote on your account.

I see what you mean, but you don't have to go outside of Habbox for that and it's not really a scam-wise website that some might be.

PM2:

Thanks for removing that user note.

As for the other part, you dont have to go outside of habbox, but i bet other people say, go to habboxforum.com, and use *username* as the referral. If youre worried about linking to scam websites, then you should block pretty much any link that is posted really as anyone could be. The referral is completely unrelated to link, its just part of the website.

and was anything done when the whole lockerz phase was happening, theyre all referrals.

People choose whether they want to use referral links anyway, if i saw one that was sneakily posted and i wanted to sign up and they hadnt mentioned referrals but they had it in the link, id just type it in lol.

Bit long but you get the jist. Basically, i dont see the harm in having referral links. They dont harm the forum, they dont do anything. If youre worried about people getting tricked, you should remove all links out of the forum.

Thoughts?

I'm not personally a fan of the sites that get posted in signatures etc however I've always wondered why it wasn't in the main rules :)

Yeah, I don't really see the harm - but they can get annoying!

more annoying than big images with massive writing in signatures?

As long as the person clearly states its a referral link, it should be allowed.

I personally am put off by them, if they were allowed back then we would end up all covered in 'Lockerz', if everything except Lockerz was allowed then I wouldn't mind.

this rule came in well before all the lockerz stuff, yet the lockerz stuff was allowed :S

I don't remember them being allowed. I don't think they should be allowed to be posted on the forum (thread wise) because there would be many and it will be pointless. Signature wise > maybe.

Allow referral links to other sites/forums but not the redirect ones which earn the person money.

Eww its not in the rules? Its probably been like that forever and that rule has been around since MAD was FM... :P

I never understood the point of banning them tbh, as far as I'm concerned you should be able to have what the hell you want in your sig within the realms of decency (including images of yourself, referral links, pictures of dogs licking lampposts etc)

Never knew the reason but I've always known this as a rule.

I agree with this; sigs maybe but not threads.

Anything but money making referrals like lockerz. I don't see any problem of in thread to be honest, you can see by thread title unless people go off topic.
