If a grade system would range from 1-10 (4 being fail and 5 pass) and you'd need 30% correct to be accepted (5), how can you easily calculate your grade if you know your point score and maximum points possible?
An example would be 38/40 points.

Also, how would you do this on a 20%,40% and 50% curve?

Couldn't you just do 40/10 to see how many points a grade is, which is 4. Then do 38/4 to find out how many grades there are, which is 9.5?

Not sure what you mean by your question... a little more explanation, please.

To calculate a percentage of an item simply take the score, divide it by the total possible score and times by 100.

For example, you score 38 on a test of 50:

38/50 = 0.76
*100 = 76%

If you want to calculate your score if you only know your percentage then it's just the opposite. Take your percentage, divide it by 100. Times that number by the maximum possible score on the test. Your answer.

Example, using same figures as above, you got 76% on a test out of 50. You want to know your score in points:

76/100 = 0.76
*50 = 38

This gives me a percentage but how do I calculate my grade from a scale from 1 to 10 using a scale of 20,30 and 40%. By that I mean for example if the scale was 40% and maximum points was 100 then I'd need 40points to pass and score a 5.

What you did answers the question on a 50% scale as 76% would equal a 7.5 grade.
