I just applied and got accepted to be a dj on HabboHut and I was talking to a member on their forums and he said he didn't know how to use winamp to dj so I thought I'd make this guide as Winamp is a absolutely great program it should be used more, although it is more complicated to setup compared to Sam Broadcaster.

Downloading & Installing Winamp

When downloading programs you must know what you're actually downloading as you don't want to end up with a virus logging your keys or taking over your computer. Winamp thankfully has it's own website that you can get different things from so you'll need to go to http://www.winamp.com/ where you'll see straight away where it says "Free download". On the next page you'll get two download options, Winamp Pro or Winamp Standard, you'll want to choose standard as it is free.

Unfortunately I've already installed it so screen shots aren't available but if you follow the prompts you'll get where you need to, remember to look what you're ticking as the newest versions contain winamp toolbars and other rather useless features.

Since winamp is now installed you can add your music into your library, this can be rather difficult as it doesn't show it very clearly, assuming you've chosen the classic skin.

Downloading & Installing Shoutcast Source

Thankfully, just like Winamp shoutcast has it's own website so it becomes a lot easier and safer to download what you need. This time you'll need to go to http://www.shoutcast.com/ where you'll find that it's not as obvious on how to download because there're lists of other radios and the website is used for more. When you're on the website go to the navigator and click "Download / Be a DJ" where it'll take you to another page that's full of content but you'll want to look at where it says "Quick links to SHOUTcast Radio downloads" and you'll want to click the link that works for your computer, for example I chose "Windows 98/ME/2000/XP" where it took me to the instructions section for Windows users.

When at the section that shows the instructions click the link that'll allow to to download the plug-in and once it's downloaded straight away go onto it and install. Again I cannot include screen shots because I've already installed but it's a basic job is you follow the prompts.

One it's finished you'll need to open up Winamp and right click and go to "Options > Preferences" where you'll find more options, here you'll need to go down to "Plug-ins > DSP/Effect" where you'll see "Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v1.9.1 [DSP_sc.dll]", double click on that, like show below.

Setting up and Information

To start djing you'll need to edit the settings within the SHOUTcast source to the correct details provided by you radio manager or your host. When you open SHOUTcast source you'll need to go to "Output" where it'll have two tabs, "connection" and "yellowpages". On the tab connection you'll have 6 options, these will be explain now. First option is "Address" which is automatically filled with "Localhost" but that will need to be changed to the server IP provided. Next up is the port which will also be provided along with the password. The encoder can be left at "1" so don't bother editing that and then the second last option is "Automatically connect on connection failure" which should be ticked and the last option should be set to "5".

The second tab which is "Yellowpages" has a few options but you only need to worry about three of them, the description is where you put your dj name so "Dj Shab" this needs to be filled in because this is where the radio information gets its information from. The next is URL which doesn't really matter a whole lot but it should be set to whatever site you're djing on, for example "http://habbohut.com". Last of all under "Track Title/URL" there is an option that says "Enable title updates" which should be ticked along side with "Title".

Speaking

Speaking is the absolute easiest part while djing with winamp because you've got two buttons just Sam Broadcaster. You'll need to have SHOUTcast source up and go to the "Input" tab where there will be a selection box, automatically it'll say "Winamp (Recommended)" but this will need to be changed to "Soundcard Input". Once changed there will be different settings, these settings don't need to be changed as the default are good but they can be adjusted to your needs. There're two buttons, "Push to talk" and "Lock" these two buttons will be explained now. The first button "Push to talk" allows you to speak into your microphone while being pressed and what you say will be broadcasted, if you press "lock" it will hold down "Push to talk" so you can talk without having to hold down the button. If you use "lock" you'll need to remember to turn it off otherwise people won't be able to hear the music.

Please note, once you've finished speaking and go to put some music on you should change "Sound Input" back to "Winamp (Recommended)" in order to avoid static.

That's all

That's all there is to it, it is a whole lot harder to setup compared to Sam Broadcaster but it is free so you don't need any activation codes, I hope this helps.

Nice tut for the ones that want to use it but why not use Sam Broadcaster? Much more easier and simple.
