Cadbury is to be taken over by the US food company Kraft after its board approved a new increased bid.
The Cadbury board has advised its shareholders to accept a new offer of 840 pence a share - valuing the company at £11.5bn ($18.9bn).
Kraft said the deal would create a "global confectionery leader".
But there are renewed fears over possible job cuts at Cadbury's UK operations as a result of the agreed takeover.
Shareholders have until 2 February to give the deal their backing, with the US confectioner Hershey apparently out of the race.
The offer will consist of 500 pence in cash, with the rest made of Kraft shares. Kraft will borrow £7bn ($11.5bn) to finance the deal.

why are they borrowing more than half the money lol surely if cadbury makes that much the board or w/e wouldn't sell. anyway, i don't get the big outrage. england is no longer a big country and can't keep up

not very surprising, it seemed that kraft were gonna keep throwing money at cadbury until they gave in

Slightly worrying they're borrowing money to assist the take-over. Cadbury's chocolate isn't that amazing, and it's better if Kraft take it than Hershey :P As long as the jobs remain intact, or mostly intact, it's fine (though unlikely).

Because we just give things away like this. Silly.

Does this mean they will still make the same chocolate or all cadbury will be taken off shelfs and replaced with "krafts krap"

I don't see why people care. Everything will remain the same. With Cadbury being a century-old household name, the products will be as they were.

Future-proofing me thinks, although Cadbury weren't exactly going down the pot.

they were planning on closing a production plant, kraft has said that office jobs wil likely go but theyre planning to keep production plants open and even open new ones. as long as it tastes and looks the same i do not care.

It's sad in terms of the job losses really, especially right now too. The chairman has confirmed that job cuts are inevitable.

Does anyone realise that Cadbury had a massive debt?

A sad end but good that an American company took it on rather than a European company, hopefully one day it will come back to the United Kingdom in some form or other. The stupid thing is that British/Americans cannot take over European companies in a way thats easy, whereas they can come over here and pinch our companies and thats them basically gone forever.
I hope it stays the same though and they don't try and attempt to tamper with the Cadbury brand.

When companies are taken over, nothing necessarily changes. I don't even see why there are fears of job losses. I wouldn't mind if they did change the chocolate though because it's not very nice imo.
I would have rooted for hersheys, i wanna try there candy seeing as they probably bring them

I think It's horrific that our beloved foods are now going to modified to meet US tastes. US manufactures have no comprehension of what chocolate should taste like - that's why all the US jokes are about women eating ice cream, and here they are about women & chocolate.
Are Kraft going to continue the tradition of looking after their workers? This is after all what Cadbury's stands for - it's not just a company it's part of our history. No doubt the significance of the Bournville Estate on our culture is a cute marketing ploy to Kraft, but do they really get it?!
Cadbury have make quality products for 200 years..... just look at some of the crud that Kraft make - Jell-O gelatin, Miracle Whip, Velveeta processed cheese. I rest my case.
What Kraft should consider in their negotiations is that with Cadbury's it's not just business - this is personal.

It's been tried and tested, American chocolate is not popular in the UK and neither is European chocolate in the US. There's no way they're going to tamper with all the Cadbury's products, because if they did, no one would buy them. There's no where saying they're going to be modified to meet US tastes.
And I didn't know that Misawa, it's funny how all news agencies missed out they were in debt to create all this hyperbole as per usual :(
cadbury will remain in our hearts

Hershey's is only available here via import, and has the most repulsive taste imaginable. Hershey's isn't owned by Kraft, either.

Can still get it here nonetheless, its in quite a few of my local shops. Did anyone think it was owned by Kraft?

Cadbury (until the takeover) Hershey's and Kraft are three completely seperate companies.

I know it's sickly
I remember winning a competition for Cadbury's on my birthday when I was younger.
Got a lot of time for Cadbury's so I'm hoping nothing will change (apart from job losses) :(

I had a bar of Terrys Chocolate (also the people who make Terrys Chocolate Orange (I just found out)) earlier which is a product of KRAFT, it was truely disgusting so I hope they dont try and change any recipes.
