Hey guys, I'm looking for a new router, I don't know much about routers but I must be able to login to it and open ports so I get an open NAT type on Xbox, must be fast, must be able to cope with 4 computers and 2 Xboxes and must have 4-6 ethernet lead ports.

Probably Netgear / Draytek / Linksys. Also, would having a better router make your internet package better? Sky provide a really cheap low budget router that disconnects every 30 minutes, I get 14 mbs download and 0.65 upload, I do a lot of uploading a download so I dunno if someone can clear that up.

Thanks ;)

Their router is so bad. I don't really have a budget, maybe between £70-£100+ odd. I want my moneys worth.

If you're actually going to be using all of those at the same time, get a Linksys. Cisco are well known for their sturdy networking products.

Linksys WRT54G.

Feature rich, very hackable with DD-WRT if you ever wanted to load custom software on, reliable, made by Cisco (who do enterprise products).

OT: I don't know if it is just us but does anyone else get through a router each year? LOL

why would he get a G? he could get an N for that money.. Unless he doesn't need wireless// he never said. If you don't need wireless then the Linksys WRT54G. is awesome

The WRT54G has wireless and N? Meh, hardly worth spending the money, too fast for a 100mb network, too slow for a 1Gb connection. He also won't notice and download slowdowns unless he is on a connection over 54mb.

It breaks the terms and conditions as using the supplied router is mandatory. This is part of the sign up that you agree to. But they can't tell, or don't care enough.

I decided to research on if you could use a different router for SKY internet becasue I have the same problem. It seems like there is a soultion tho..

other option is to turn off the wireless on the Sky router, link it via ethernet to your Netgear and use that as an access point - this way you stay within the T&C's of Sky BB...

I'm perfer netgear personally

They can't do anything if you do use a different router.

My mum has that router with her Sky BB and I found iit quite reliable. It never disconnected every 30 mins nor was the down/up load slow.

You can stream HD fine over Wireless-G (did it with my PS3), and realistically if you're going to do any computer-to-computer transfers that are big enough to justify Wireless N, you'd want a cable anyway.

I say this, but it'll all be wrong in the future anyways.

No. Cables > Wireless forever and always ;).

As has already been suggested, for home networking equipment I'd generally only buy either Linksys or Netgear kit.

My house was wired for internet in the 80's but it doesn't work so we're forced to use wireless for all of our internet. I have a 54g but it sucks, I'm looking into FIOS, which would be MINTTTT

Give us a shout when you go to the US and buy FiOS from Verizon.

Was just thinking that.
