Your TV is indeed capable of 1080p full HD. Does the screen go blurry when you select 1080p? Check with your HDMI capable as, for some reason, some of the cheaper cables can only reach 1080i.

most likely your hmdi cable, youve gotta fork out loads for a decent one

If it was a really cheap cable then that's probably the reason.

How much is 'loads'? A £5 cable should work lol, I'm using some cheap-ass one that came in a bundle with it and it displays 1080p fine.
Kinda O/T but how can a cheaper cable be worse? A digital signal is either there or it isn't

What he said, surely? Unless different HDMI cables read different digital frequencies? It's a known fact that cheaper HDMI cables perform just as well as expensive ones, it's quite a con :P
Cheap ones can't handle the bandwidth.

My ****** tesco hdmi didnt do fullHD, so i got a full-gold one. Crisp n crackin' picture.
My £7 10m HDMI cable works perfectly from my AV receiver to projector at 1080p 60FPS and 24 FPS.

Where'd you get that from? Is it gold?

It doesn't matter wether it's gold or not.

A gold lead obviously delivers better quality than normal ones.

This has been physically proven and demonstrated, it doesn't, it causes a placebo effect, humans think that because something sounds better and costs more it will affect how, in this case, it delivers audio and video.. it doesn't.
Engadget or Gizmodo had a very good article the other month and the conclusion was to not be suckered into buying those expensive ass cables.

Amazon market place.

The connectors are gold plated. Cable is very thick though, a bit more thicker than my beefy power cables anyway so its not very flexable.
Thick is good with cables. And £7 is not a cheapo one. £2 is a cheapo one. They cannot handle the bandwidth of 1080p.
For 10m it is cheap.
I have another 2m cable that cost me 69p. Again it works fine for 1080p 60FPS and 24FPS.

Fair enough then :P.
But it is true that some cables can not handle the bandwidth.
Yeah, you are best off checking out the reviews from other people that bought the cable and their experiences else you might end up with a crappy cable. However, if you buy a good cable, even at low price, then you should be fine.
Never buy cables from high street shops as 99.9% of times they are completly ripping you off :P

I find it rare to find expensive gold HDMI cables... The cheaper ones tend to be gold anyway :P

Hi. my cheap cable is probably the problem then? i guess the pricetag of £1.60 should of told me that. After looking at the page in which is bought it from, it mentions nothing about the resolution you can achieve. However reading customer reviews, customers are stating that they are recieveing a full 1080p??????? O and yea, when i select it, it goes black, then "searching for signal" then black again, and then the screen just comes back on with the unticked box still intact. this happens again and again. Although its not 30 seconds, its more like 10-15. Heres the link for the cable i bought. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000Q7BOUM/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
All reply-ees will be +repped thanksssss

Hmmm, when that happened with mine, a quick tog on the cable fixed it, to make sure it was actually connected properly. Have you tried wiggling it around in the slot?
if you have a spare HD cable lieing around, like if someone in your house is using another HD cable for freesat or skyHD, then borrow that and youll get your answer. If it cant do 1080i but does so on other TVs, make sure your ps3 settings are set up correctly. Hold the button on the playstation in until it double beeps (from standby)

ive tried wiggling it about but to no avail. 1080i works. i just cant get 1080p too? it just comes up "searching for signal" as if it cant find it, then it comes back on but will not allow me to save it with 1080p selected. am i right in thinking my tv can possibly only handle 1080i? thanks

Sounds like your TV might only be able to handle 1080i.
Samsung TV's are a bit of a sod to sort out. My HD Ready LE19R86 does not work in a lot of resolutions with my laptop, and although it can do 1080p, refuses to do the resolution Windows wants it to.
