Bristol University FML.

Bristol has been my top choice for ages yeah, and they go and flipping reject me for Mechanical engineering and instead said to me "We like you so much we'll give you a place in Electrical and Electronics engineering". If you like me so much you would of gave me a place in mechanical *****.
ah.
What should i do?!!?!

Mechanical engineering is what i want to study, Bristol is where i want to study, but i can''t have both. But i don't know enough about electrical/electronic engineering to know if i want to study it.
Anyone know/or know of anyone doing the course?! tyy

Personally I'd go for a different university. Bristol is a good university and it's where you want to go and whatever, but ultimately you should go for the subject you want to study. If you're good enough to receive an offer from Bristol, even if it is in a different type of engineering, you should still be able to get into a decent university.

i done electronic and electrical engineering at college, its fairly easy tbh just alot of maths (as with any engineering course) and lots of fun practical stuff. I would go for it if i were you, electrical engineers are needed offshore. Thats were the big money is!

Can i just ask why you want to go to bristol uni?

Because if its cos your mates or something along them lines are going there then its a bit stupid that your willing to change the course you want to do to stay with your mates. But if its because its closer to home or something just look for the nearest one other than bristol.

i have always gone with choose the course then look at the unis which offer it. So i would look else where if i were you :)! But it depends if you would only be happy at Bristol for some unknown reason.. the shopping is crap (A)!

I've been on like tons of open days and like Bristol is the only one that i actually just fell in love! The city just like really appealed to me, and then the university was amazing too , lecturers were really friendly and the locals seemed so nice.

I think i'm going to put it as my insurance choice. blah.

This happened to my friend too, the reason is the course you applied for is probably over-subscribed and the electrical one isn't, but they think your a good student so still want you at their university so offer you an alternative.

If I were personally you, i wouldn't embark on a degree in something, quoting you 'i don't know enough about electrical/electronic engineering to know if i want to study it.', because you'd probably struggle - and your not going to have much time to find out about it now anyway.

Go to another university (i'm sure if you visited the other places they'd grow on you) and do the course that your good at/enjoy doing, and enthusiastically wrote about in your personal statement. ;)

Glad you've made that decision!! It's a way to fill other courses up like what soka said. I was offered computer science rather than accounting at Nottingham last year :s. They tend to be less popular or well known courses.

Follow primarily what your heart says about subject, and THEN location tbh. If you are THAT serious about Bristol, I would also research the difference between the courses and whether studying the substitute course will affect your career path. Ask people from each course about what their experience is - if you don't know any or you still need more help, you can PM me and I could direct you somewhere that might help you make your choice.
