ABC has canceled Ugly Betty.

This is about as ugly as it gets, folks.

ABC has just informed Ugly Betty producers that the show’s current fourth season will be its last. What’s more, the network has trimmed the show’s episode order from 22 to 20.

Although not a complete shock given the show’s heinous ratings, the news is nonetheless a total bummer — particularly in light of Betty’s creative resurgence this season.

The good news is that ABC has given Betty’s bosses enough time to craft a satisfying series finale. Exec producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson confirmed as much in this joint statement: “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

But back to the bad news: Betty is about to hang up her poncho for good. The comments sections is currently accepting heartfelt eulogies…

THIS IS THE ONLY SHOW IVE EVER WATCHED EVERY SINGLE EPISODE OF.
I absoultely LOVE Ugly Betty and I can NEVER see America Ferrera doing anything else apart from being Betty. I love the whole cast and it works togeather so much. Im up to episode 12 of season four and I am just totally gutted. Apparently My Name is Earl has been pulled too and another American TV Company has taken it and will continue. I hope this is done to Ugly Betty but not changed :(

Its sill what ABC have done though. 11m viewers in 2006/07 then they started moving it around, from Wednesdays to Thursdays then in America the death slot of Friday evenings and now back to Wednesdays to try and save it. If such a good and multi-award winning show, why did the move it around so much :(

Everyones saying on facebook and twitter how it was stupid how they keep moving great shows around like this and they actually moved Betty to the death slot (fridays) then tried to help her out by putting her back on Wednesdays :(

They gave her new glasses, better clothes and a new hair do and she looks pretty hawt. I think her braces would probably have been removed at beginning of season five / end of season 4.

The whole cast is amazing.
Every character has so much depth it's just unfair that they would take them all away from me :(
It's like I've lost a family member.
I wanted to see Willy finally find happiness, Geo come back for Betty, Justin go on to go to broadway, Mark and Bettys carears have just started taking off, Bobby and Hilda just got serious, Ignacios girlfriend hasn't come back yet ;o
We don't know who Amandas dad is, will claires son ever get in touch with her?
And what about Danny, he's just a lost soul :(

In the USA today, if a show simply doesn't deliver on ratings, it's canned. Pilot season doesn't exist anymore, new shows are getting pilots each and every day, so these shows that once drew a good audience can be replaced in a heartbeat.

The TV network couldn't give a damn about ratings outside of USA, and rightfully so, it's a solely American show. Fans of it can only hope that another network buys the rights, but it probably won't happen.
