View Full Version : Sexist Jokes allowed?

I don't pretend to know forum rules or anything but I thought this thread was kind of harsh: http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=624979
I guess it's allowed because there's not really a rule against sexist jokes (apparently). I know it's a joke and everything but I think in this situation it was taken too far, surly threads like that shouldn't be tolerated :P

Im not sure about this but I am sure Oli or Matt or someone would verify but to me I think its just making a joke of the old stereotype of women.

It's a joke. It's not serious at all so nobody can really take offence at it with valid reason.
Jokes are made about everything within society and sexist jokes are probably some of the most commonly used, purely because of the fact it's natural to have the sort of men V women vibe.
In our Philosophy class we often make sexist comments and the girls play along and get us back.
We don't allow sick/inappropriate jokes at Habbox Forum but imo there is absolutely nothing wrong with a sexist joke, it's not as if he's being serious :S :S :S

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?
Nothing, you already told her twice.
That's seriously an acceptable joke?

It's not as though he's being serious at all.
90% of the women I know wouldn't find that offensive unless it wasn't a joke.

No but I can avoid the filter and say I wasn't being serious? And it's Scott. He was probably being serious.

I fail to see that Scott's true belief is that to tell a woman something means to give her a black eye.
It's a joke. We allow jokes that may, to an extent, be vulgar or distasteful (remember Kerry Katona, Michael Jackson etc?). That is the point of a joke, they intend to make people laugh and they aren't serious. As long as they aren't deliberately aimed at someone or are excessively vulgar, they are fine.
Besides, women won't mind... they're too busy in the kitchen and looking after the children to complain about sexist jokes!

Regardless of Scott's unique morals I'm still saying such jokes are offensive even if you say "90% of girls aren't offended" (not quite entirely sure that's even true), I think Habbox should be more mature than to make such sexist comments/jokes(H)

Lovin' it babes.
I asked 5 women if they were offended by the jokes within that thread.
They all said no :)
So why wouldn't allow something that's not causing any harm?

Well, I think it is well rude to be posting stereotypes and sexist jokes on the forum. because some people can take them very offensively , Because on that thread that David posted, I being a female think it is very uncalled for, saying ; Why is the forest doing in the kitchen. I understand that it is just a joke. But Some people might take it the wrong way. In Canada their are many Male Chefs. So I think it shouldn't be tolerated, but thats just my opinion.

You can post as many male related jokes as you want, they won't bother me (because I know we're superior).
In all seriousness though, enforcing a rule against such jokes would just be ridiculous. People moan about leniency and then want us to get well strict! People make this jokes all the time, and as long as they are good natured and aimed at having a laugh I don't see what the problem is at all.

It's pretty obvious a lot of guys will disagree with this because the jokes aren't aimed at them. They are rude jokes, they are offending people, such behaviour is beneath Habbox forum users.

If someone is being deadly serious and their "joke" has gotten to the extent where it's completely inappropriate and vulgar and it's been aimed at someone on the forum, then yes, do something about it.

An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman were sitting in a bar, drinking, and discussing how stupid their wives were. The Englishman says, "I tell you, my wife is so stupid. Last week she went to the supermarket and bought £250 worth of meat because it was on sale, and we don't even have a fridge to keep it in." The Scotsman agrees that she sounds pretty thick, but says his wife is thicker. "Just last week, she went out and spent £17,000 on a new car," he laments, "and she doesn't even know how to drive!" The Irishman nods sagely, and agrees that these two woman sound like they both walked through the stupid forest and got hit by every branch. However, he still thinks his wife is dumber. "Ah, it kills me every toime oi tink of it," he chuckles. "Moy woife just left to go on a holiday in Greece. Oy watched her packing her bag, and she must have put about 100 condoms in there. lady made several attempts to sell her old car.
She was having a lot of problems finding a buyer
because the car had 340,000 miles on it. She
discussed her problem with a friend that she
worked with at a bar.
The friend suggested, 'There may be a chance to
sell that car easier, but it's not going to be legal.'
'That doesn't matter at all,' replied the lady.
'All that matters it that I am able to sell this car.'
'Alright,' replied the her friend. In a quiet voice, she
told the lady: 'Here is the address of a friend of
mine. He owns a car repair shop around here. Tell
him I sent you, and he will turn the counter back
on your car to 40,000 miles. Then it shouldn't be
a problem to sell your car.'
The following weekend, the lady took a trip to the
mechanic on her friend's advice.
About one month after that, the friend saw the lady
and asked, 'Did you sell your car?'
'No!' replied the lady. 'Why should I? It only has
40,000 miles on it.'

I regularly watch stand up comedians who makes jokes about people based on their race / origin. Most comedians do. Tony Scott, a comedian in Benidorm who I find hilarious is racist, sexist and also makes jokes about people based on their area (Scousers are thieves, or whatever). That is just how jokes work.
In regard to Aprilshower saying that about gays. If someone turn around and said "being gay is bad" then yeah, that's not necessarily a nice thing to say. However I regularly crack jokes about how much I hate gays (lets face it they are almost always *****!!)... but wait, I'm gay myself!?

I think its incredibly immature to post these types of jokes. maybe its because I'm not exactly a 'jokey' person but whatever. it's 100% IMMATURE. thats also including ginger jokes, irish/scouser/american/canadian jokes, etc.
I think its stupid and it is a little discriminative, but we all know that not everyone's going to stop. true, females do get our fair share of male jokes, but on this forum, not even close. the male population is far more than female here. if you get pleasure out of it, I think its ridiculous personally. Girls already have low self esteem and sometimes 'jokes' like these ones push us over the edge. I personally think that its just childish to post these things, and I'm not going to be the one to say 'HEY YOU, STOP BEING DISCRIMINATIVE' or whatever. but I think a lot of the females are pretty respectful (for the most part) towards the guys about this stuff on the forum and personally I think the guys should do the same. if you really want to do this stuff do it on msn or habbo or something.
I also think that just because you say it isnt meant to be taken seriously doesn't mean it wont be. I know that I've been 'joked' in the past and it was really offensive actually. plus if the mods are doing it, people are going to follow in their footsteps and thinks things like that are always okay. we live in a new era now, not the traditional man-works-woman-tends-to-the-house life. guys cook, women work, guys stay home sometimes, its not the same as the old lifestyle. so whats the point in even keeping it around? :S
just my opinion.

If you PROPERLY take alot of offence to these jokes you REALLY need to get a grip and grow up (not aimed at you in particular just using you as in girls)
I dont post for others, I post for myself.
I saw this and I was interested so I posted, nothing wrong with that?

Actually I didn't ask her, for your information. But Its wrong, because we are over populated. and this shouldn't be allowed, Girls already have a low self - esteem, don't make it worse. really, because now its just getting pathetic.
@Sergio, I am offended at this, that the boys are posting they think it should be allowed ! when it shouldn't be

A battery has a positive side.

Besides, women won't mind... they're too busy in the kitchen and looking after the children to complain about sexist jokes!
Going back to this post again, this is wrong. because there is a father as well, what do you think the father is suppose to do ? He is suppose to help look after the child as well. Not just the mother,..

I'm a guy (<INSERT SCOTTS JOKE ABOUT HOW IM NOT HERE>) but I'll say this anyway!
Woman worked damn hard to get the proper rights and freedoms they have today and in a lot of places they still dont have all the rights they deserve and are subject to job discrimination (lower salary, etc). Making sexist jokes is totally 100% undermining and showing disrespect for all of that work. It's unnecessary, and certainly the most immature thing I have ever seen on Habbox since I joined.

This is not a debate on the role of the woman. As I said before, I don't actually think what I am saying - that is why it is a joke.

I don't think you people take History in school to be honest. , See thats rude how I just said that. I'll rephrase it. I don't think English people take history in school because so many females have died because of trying to be equal to boys. People who belong to the Islamic community would find it offensive that women are allowed to say what they think tbh...
Surely that argument is an equal argument to your argument?
So ok then, if we get a muslim community on this forum, and they complain that women say too much and pics are too revealing, we'll ban women from talking and stop them posting pics ye?

haha scott, so funny.
-cough- immature -cough-
Getting a bit out of hand now, I think. Everyone has had plenty of opportunity to make their point.
Thread closed.
Sorry but I do not see the quarrel in this thread.
These jokes are not of a discriminatory or sexist nature purely because females are not being treated differently because of their gender which is ultimately what discrimination is.
Essentially all that could be said is that some may find it slightly offensive in a similar way as to how people may find "current affairs" jokes offensive such as the Haiti topic or dead public figures.
More importantly nothing is stopping people from posting jokes such as:
Why do men die before their wives?
They should.
If you are honestly offended by such jokes (at this point I am talking about jokes which may offend any user for whatever reason not just gender jokes) then I would suggest closing the page before the punchline is delivered, I would also suggest never going to see stand-up comedy as it more then likely wont be for you.
