For all of you from the home nations..

What do you class your nationality as?

my dads friend wrote down his nationality as 'English'. Apparently we're not allowed to write that since english is a lnaguage thats used worldwide and would be too generic. Im english as im from england, but apparently we have to use british, whereas others can use scottish, welsh and irish.

There's really nothing worse than a nationalist Scot.

Why is that? :rolleyes:Just how they feel the need to make a point about being Scottish and not British. By all means be proud of where you come from but some nationalists would take it as an insult to call them "British". There's nothing wrong with being labelled British and at the end of the day, they are British (As well as Scottish) and should be able to handle them both. I'm also not a fan of Scottish independence as I think it would be bad for Scotland as well as the the rest of the UK, I also hate how it is currently seeing as you get your own laws, free university and better healthcare, why can't England?

Because here in England, the people who run our country are asshats and think that buying 270,000 laptops to give to people is more important than making Universities cheaper for students that might actually work (not saying the people who get free laptops won't, but you get the idea).

I know Scots are Brits as well, but the question is what do you consider yourself to be. Just because Scotland isn't totally governed within Scotland, it's still a country. I think Scotland should be independent from the UK, but not under the SNP and I don't know enough about this to argue really, but surely a Scot could argue that we should be able to get free laptops if England can?

Thats a damn lie by whoever is saying that (guessing the PC brigade) - out of all the nationalities and 'diversity' in this country they English are the worst treated, strange really because most of it belongs to the English people anyway last time I checked.

Why is that?

Why is it?

Because the Scottish are so 'proud' of their country but don't realise that it is the English which subsidise the Scottish under the Barnett formula. What you spend up in Scotland; free uni and so forth isn't sustainable for Scotland and is only provided because the spineless MPs here (mostly Labour) make sure Scotland recieves this money because if they didn't, Labour would lose the vital support it recieves from Scotland.

Why should my mother and father pay more taxes than that of a scottish family when we recieve less and the scottish family recieves more? - they shouldn't and it really winds people up, especially when we see people like the SNP and Scottish Nationalists moaning about what England is getting (rarely anything more than Scotland gets). Scottish MPs can also vote on English issues, how on earth is that fair? - its not.

On the topic, I call myself British.

:S no. i understand england can do fine without us whereas we'd just struggle without england. i understand that - as do many other people. we don't need someone who doesn't need to worry about it to tell us what we should or shouldn't believe. WE can't do anything about the system, nor can you. take it out on the MPs all you want but it doesn't mean we can't be "proud" of being scottish. i'm 100% sure if you were in our shoes you wouldn't be complaining but of course you'll just deny that.

i actually fnd it funny how many of you claim you'd say you were british yet you're slagging off part of britain? i don't believe it. if anyone would ask you in a real situation i reckon you would say you were english and i don't think there's anything wrong in that but i'm guessing I'M the wrong one here because you and others will deny it (let's be honest there's more english people here than scottish, i know literally nothing about politics/economy/countries/history but i'm not a ******)

also i might be wrong but isn't nationality your COUNTRY of birth? i was born and raised in scotland and i'm therefore scottish, yeah i'm british too but first i'm scottish and proud so.... pretty sure you're proud of being english as you've already proved with your "scotland needs england"

The Scottish people aren't ripping everyone off, its the SNP and the Labour Party who are - and thats what i'm saying, when we see Scottish people moaning about 'England gets this, England gets that' - it winds people up. On in your shoes, if my country was being run by French cash and the French people did not want it then I would be against it, I am also against EMA yet I recieve EMA - so no, my opinions would be the same.

I am not slating normal Scottish people, I am slating the ones who moan constantly about the Union and the English. On pretty sure, yeah of course I am proud of English history. However I believe in our history our glory days so to speak came from the Union, hence why I refer to myself as British.

Of course they did (a very very very small minority), but he/she is making the point that in their view for somebody to be English/British they have to be white. We may not agree with it but thats no reason to punish/show the racist card just because you don't agree with somebody.

It's impossible to be this so called "British" for so many reasons, we're all immigrants at some point, the vast majority of us have a bit of Germany, Norway and Denmark in us.

Sorry I didn't do anything of the sort - I DO NOT penalise anybody just because I do not agree with them. The statement that you have to be white to be english is a racist remark and very inappropriate for the forum. If some party gets in and changes the laws on what 'racism' is perceived to be then that would be a different thing. Thanks.

How on is that racist, its merely that users view on who they consider British which they have stated in a non-racist fashion. We may disagree with it but thats no reason to punish somebody for it. There was no malicious comment on behalf of that user and no racism incited; they merely said that in their view you have to be white to be British which is a sterotype in itself.

I DO NOT penalise anybody just because I do not agree with them. You just have, you have punished somebody for something which you consider racist yet the comment has no hatred towards another race mentioned. That is not racism.
