I mostly listen to music from years ago, streching back to the 70's I think. In fact some of my favourite songs are from pre 90's: Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond & Breathe, Cream - Badge, The Ramones - Rock n Roll Radio, The Kinks - A Well Respected Man.

That said I also listen to Belle and Sebastian a fair bit (mainly albums from 2002 and 2006), Green Day also (2009 all the way back to 1992). Old songs sit well with me, they don't loose their magic as I don't overplay them (and as I don't listen to the radio, it's not a problem listening to a song being played too often either).

Last year? I hate the idea some people have that music can't be listened to because it's now old. I listen to stuff from as far back as the 60s, maybe one or two artists even older.

there's nothing on my ipod older than like 2000. old music is terrible in my opinion, i never understand this obsession with liking classic rock and all that crap, listening to music that's older than me is stupid

I couldnt agree with this post any more than anything else!

I cant stand 'the oldies' for example... AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Zef Leopard, Sex Pistols ect..... even though.. yes... i know they influenced a lot of bands i listen to now.

But no, i cant stand old music what so ever!
too me it sounds flat and lifeless...

exactly. people are like 'they've influenced lots of people you listen too, respect the oldies blahblah'. no. i don't care if they've influenced the whole genre of music i listen to, that doesn't mean i should listen to them

I listen to a lot of old songs. Most of the songs on my iPod are quite old. I've only got a few recent ones.

I'm not really a big fan of the music now, although I do like some songs.

i can understand you thinking 'classic rock' sounds dull and lifeless but what about stuff like pink floyd and that? they sound well ahead of their time.

Nobody is saying you have to like certain music just because of what it influenced, but being before you were born is hardly a decent reason to exclude certain music which you never know, you might like. What do you think of the Beatles?

for one, bands like beatles and oasis and stuff aren't music i listen to in the first place. they bore me to pieces. i know i won't like them because i'm not interested in songs about walls and yellow submarines.

I have some Van Halen on my ipod, and they were around at least 20 years before I was born, goo goo dolls, the offspring, the Beatles and I'm sure a lot of Bruce Springsteen's stuff I listen to is pretty old.

It's not hard for me to believe and I'm not trying to belittle your opinions, I just don't like it when people dismiss music based on anything other than what it is (i.e. lyrics and how it sounds etc).

music should go forward, it should always progress. i laugh at people who are stuck listening to old music. it makes no sense to me why you would want to listen to music in terrible quality that, like emogilly said, sounds flat.

I'm not stuck with old music lol. I listen to plenty of modern music - my favourite band at the moment is Kasabian. There's a whole spectrum of stuff to be heard from decades ago and tbh I've never even thought about quality before; nothing I listen to is in terrible quality. Just because you're moving forward doesn't mean you have to forget about where you once were.

I listen to laods of songs that are more than a year old. Don't quite go back as far as the 60s, or even 70s much, but i will listen.

Overall i prefer recent stuff.

i understand your point about wanting to stick to newer music, actually. i find excitement in the here and now, there's something incredibly different about listening to an artist that will come out with more music in the future than there is an artist that's dead and gone. i find that there is more than enough music coming out today to keep me occupied, often i even fail to catch a new awesome musician because im listening to something else.

that being said, i listen to plenty of music before my time. the furthest that i go back is the 60's and thats incredibly sparse, not much from the 70's either. i have a fair amount from the 80's despite the 80's being the absolute lowest point in modern music history. ill include anyone whose from or whose peak was in the 90's or earlier: the pixies, the smiths, the velvet underground, joy division, the beach boys, beastie boys, biggie, sunny day real estate, elliott smith, fugazi, wu-tang, my bloody valentine, neutral milk hotel, pavement, r.e.m., sonic youth, tom waits, and yo la tengo

Eminem
Marshall Mathers LP (about 6 songs)
Slim Shady LP (5 songs)
Encore (5 songs)
There albums were all before 2004.

Coldplay; clocks, yellow etc.

I listen to any song if it is good, no matter how old it is.

I agree, i am forced to listen to Gold 104.3 (its like just old music, with maybe one or two "recent" songs, like Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), 3AM by Matchbox Twenty). Its so crap, i almost know all the songs off by heart :(

I love old songs esp love ones lol

Actually,I'd listen to anything nice no matter how old it is & I prefer the not so popular songs cause you don't listen to them on the radio very much which will not make you that bored easily
