John Terry will not offer to resign as England captain following allegations of an affair with a team-mate's ex-girlfriend, BBC Sport understands.

England boss Fabio Capello is expected to hold talks with Terry on Friday.
The Football Association has made it clear the Italian alone will decide the 29-year-old Chelsea defender's fate.

Capello has been recovering from knee surgery at his holiday home in Switzerland and will return to London on Thursday.

He has been monitoring the fall-out from the Terry saga closely and has regularly spoken on the telephone to his trusted lieutenant Franco Baldini.

Baldini, England's general manager, held in-depth talks with four key FA board members on Monday - chairman Lord Triesman, chief executive Ian Watmore, director of communications Adrian Bevington and head of development Trevor Brooking.

They agreed that Capello alone would make the decision about Terry's future and that the priority was to make the right decision rather than a quick decision.

This is despite the fact that some members of the FA are eager for the issue to be resolved before England's manager attends the Euro 2012 qualifying draw in Warsaw on Sunday.

If Capello does make a decision before Sunday, it is believed he would then inform the assembled media in the Polish capital.

Terry is alleged to have had an extra-marital affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of his England team-mate Wayne Bridge.

The French model is being advised by public relations guru Max Clifford, who claims Perroncel has already been offered £250,000 to tell her side of the story.

The possibility of Perroncel making further damaging revelations about Terry in a Sunday newspaper is another reason why Capello may want to wait before making a decision about his skipper.

Does he think hes above everyone or sumin, of course you should hand it over, some bloody role model you are to children. "HEY CHILDREN< WHEN UR OLDER SLEEP BEHIND YOUR WIFES BACK WITH YOUR BEST MATES WIFE AND GET HER PREGNANT", yeh course!

But there is one key word in this report. I don't know the details but it does say allegedly so surely it might not be true? In which case, why the hell should he resign? Lol.

Why should he resign captaincy over a matter that has nothing at all to do with football?

Thing is you wouldn't lose a job in the ordinary world for this. It's his personal life. Don't condone it but has nothing to do with his ability as a captain or footballer.

He's a ****, hope his ex wins all his money and leaves him with a gambling and alcohol addiction.

Saturday is gonna be funny, got Hunt to torment and Terry songs to sing. Can't wait for the trip down to the Bridge.

although i think the event should deffinately NOT affect his football, he is considered a role model and therefore i can't help but suggest he stands down.

However, if you think back, the likes of Rooney and other players have done some stupid things as well, yet it was simply pushed a side and the football shone through.

You could. Especially if it was with another colleague, or the matter crossed over into the work place. Has happened numerous times before and recently where my mum works 2 people who had been having an ongoing affair were both fired, after the guy's wife found the woman who he was cheating with's address and starting harassing her, etc. leading to the police getting involved. It happens.

Anyway, I agree that Terry should step down as captain. The ****.

I'm actually against everyone who thinks he should resign.

What he chooses to do in his private life is his decision, ok it's a stupid thing to do, but it shouldn't affect his career as it's not directly linked.

It's evident that it hasn't affected his football so he should be left to sort out his own life in private.

Never said what he did was okay, said it was stupid in fact.

I said he shouldn't be forced to resign because his private life should be exactly that, private, and shouldn't affect his career.

As someone rightly pointed out, it's not like he's got the good end of the stick really.

In the ordinary world we don't earn thousands of pounds per week and we're not idolised by millions of children not only in this country, but around the world. If I was in that kind of position, I would view the importance of my behaviour both on and off the pitch as a very small price to pay for the kind of lifestyle I'm lucky enough to have.

Besides, surely he could just pass the armband on as a sign of regret if not anything else? Wouldn't really make a difference to his career anyway so it's just something he could do to help his case a little bit.

Posted on another site at midnight;

1. The Sun have lined up another EIGHT women whove slept with him in the last 18 months or so. Enough for a couple of weeks of front pages. Including FHMs own HSH, Tanya Robinson
2. The front page today that Bridges ex, Vanessa, has slept with five members of the Chelsea squad is only the beginning. Two other Chelsea players - Gudjonsen and Drogba - were also sleeping with Bridge's girlfriend at the same time as Terry.
3. The Sun is also paying Vanessa £250k to dish everything including the fact that the mystery fifth Chelsea player is, depressingly predictably, Ashley Cole. Which should give Cheryl the excuse she needs to finally dump him (now shes no longer Racist Toilet Cleaner Puncher, but the new Nations Sweetheart)
4. JT has also been sleeping with current team mate Hilario's wife (who also has kids).
5. Away from the bedroom, JT also owes Wembley a substantial amount of money for a box he owns and hasn't paid for, even after he had mates in there racking up a £20k bill at the FA Cup final

No one is saying leave Terry, but he's embarrassed himself, the club and this country. Morale in this squad is gone. What a horrific thing for a captain to do, to his teammate. The City team showed it, this forum shows it, the country is split. Team Bridge, or Team Terry. Bridge and Barry will be pissed off by Terry's actions, The two Coles and Lampard will be behind Terry. Besides, Bridge has already good as retired from international football after this. He's said he doesn't want to be in a squad with Terry and like you said, we can't leave our best CB at home.

who cares what he gets up to in his life? that's his life. not ours. you wouldn't even know about it if it wasn't for the media. always getting their nose in. dressing room unrest is not caused by john terry, it's caused by the media.

and then they'll wonder why we do **** in the world cup. because of the media.

john terry is a fantastic footballer and deserves to captain england. children should be educated by their parents that adultery is wrong and if parents leave education to footballers then it's the parents' fault. TERRY IS A FOOTBALLER, NOT A BLOODY ROLE MODEL. if people want to follow in his footsteps then so be it but that isn't terry's choice.

I just want the England squad to be as strong as possible, I think it would be a bad thing for the squad if he wasn't captain and would have a direct negative affect on the football. Separate personal life and football and keep him. Footballer first, role model second.

I'm pretty sure David Beckham cheated on his wife while he was captain or beforehand, and he still succeeded in staying captain.

it wasn't aimed at you, it was just an expansion of my previous post.

if someone is old enough to have a role model then they are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. like i said, who cares? terry is a great footballer and a great captain. stripping him would just damage morale tenfold.
