If you had to pick one electronic device you own that you would die without, what would it be?
I'd probably say my ipod, feel so bored when im walking places with nothing to listen to!
Abbie.

my phone, my phone can hold thousands of songs anyway so i wouldnt miss an ipod or nothing, plus it has the internet and all
I'd most definitely say my laptop. Providing that I could access the internet :P. It is important to everything - arranging things like going out etc, study, work. Everything. Also, it's a good substitute to things like a phone (text and email from online) and TV (iplayer, warez!!) So yeah, my laptop :).

My laptop. Teamed with a pair of Skullcandys and a Vodafone dongle, best travelling companion ever.

Why would someone really need one of those? That's what sex is for?
Hmm, maybe my phone or my car, wait, can a car be classified as a device? :(

Haha, but you then get annoyed when people bug you.
Anywayyy, I would say my computer. But I remember one time I went to school without my phone and it was the worst day ever, so my mobile. :P

Exactly the same as this. I've been without a phone for the past week and my iPod is broken so I've been stuck with a Nano which is just depressing. I can communicate, listen to music and watch TV on my laptop.

Does anybody else find it funny how people say "laptop", "desktop" or "phone" unless it's an Apple product in which case they want people to know they have one so it's "MacBook", "iMac" or "iPhone".
Anyway, laptop :P

No it's fair bragging rights. I paid 3X for this thing I'm going to call it something special.
Or it could be the successful marketing of a good oligopoly, establishing a unique brand, etc. I don't say to my friends, "look how well this operating system is running," I say, "look how well windows 7 runs".

No because in that case you are describing something more specific, a piece of software explaining to them how good it is so they would need to know the name. In this case it's just a generic device and I always think it comes across as quite arrogant when everyone else says "laptop" and then someone comes along and says "MacBook" because in reality all it is is a laptop.

To be fair some people do it to all their devices, I call my phone my G1, my laptop my MacBook, my old laptop was My Dell, etc.

Well it isn't that expensive tbh... was £20 off ebay :P I suppose it happens with any expensive thing in life though, not just gadgets. Same with cars, if you have a ferrari you're not going to say you're going to work in your car, you'd say your ferrari.

To be fair, Apple would probably argue that a MacBook is a notebook rather than a laptop, and I don't often hear people even use the word notebook in a generic sense.

Likewise, I've always seen BlackBerrys as different to phones (not necessarily better than, because I hate them lol).
You could also argue about people saying iPod instead of MP3 player, but who the hell says that?! :P

There is an actual difference, this page outlines them fairly well: http://www.homeofficebuddy.com/officecomputer/diff-notebook-laptop.shtml
But they are interchangable, MacBooks for example are called Notebooks but they don't fulfill the requirements to be one, so actualy they are laptops.

I wasn't aware of the actual differences but this actually contradicts what I suggested unless they prize themselves on how light their MacBook is as this is seems to be the only real positive aspect of a notebook. Thanks for that info :)
