View Full Version : Drinking too much milk?

About a month ago i found myself drinking about 2 litres of coke a day.
So in an attempt to improve my health i have swapped all the drinking i do at home to milk. This is making me have about 3 pints of milk a day..
And although it is better for my body and teeth... is there any side effects of drinking too much milk?

why milk? water is so so much healthier.
too much of pretty much anything is bad for you but with milk it'll be even worse. what kind of milk is it anyway? you might start putting on weight.
tbh i always thought it was more important for kids who were still developing to drink a lot of it but it's not so wise for your bones when you're older, not sure how true that is but i learn it in childcare so yknow :P i don't think it's all that great, maybe with your cereal and a glass before bed but water is better imo
i have an obsession with apple juice :'(

As Jen said, if you're drinking normal milk, it'll put weight on, depending on your age that could be very unhealthy.
I suggest swapping some of the milk for water, or fruit juices.

Like you already stated, milk is good for your teeth and you need it in your diet but drinking 21l of milk a week is a lot. Not only is it incredibly expensive but like others have already said aswell, it will make you put on weight which is bad for you aswell. Best to stick to water/flavoured water or cordial to be honest.

Bottled water is subpar to the water from your tap. Drinking milk is fine, but it could lead to some fat gains. If you were to start working out however, it's commonly said that for beginners, milk is better than steroids.

So if i want to drink lots of milk the only downside is weight gain?
And it would be fine if i kept active?
I also have a high metabolism-thingy, i eat loads and dont put on anything.

I love milk! Usually drink loads except recently while I've not been well I've stuck to flavoured water.
Milk gives you acne tbh
When I'm at home I drink milk more than anything else and all my life until very recently I was drinking the blue cap stuff. It doesn't give me acne though nor does it do anything to my weight. My mum always gets the green cap now although I'd rather stay with the blue one.

Well, The only noticeable short term effect yes, your body only want's high levels of something every so often, drinking milk all the time forever constantly is building up these high levels which it doesn't want, variety is always good remember.

I used to drink 2 pints plus a day for about 5 years. Bought on way home from school. People thought I was weird but it's nice, I have a good metabolism so it has no bearing that way and I've never broken a bone and I was a pretty sporty guy.
Milk can only be good.

True although i read somewhere its proven that alot of milk can increase acne although everyone is different. Also you can drink your milk and youll be fine just dont drink as much as you've said you have been switch it up and have water, or some juice.

Yeah I go through phases really. At one point I was drinking nothing but pure orange juice but now I can't stand the stuff. I don't think I drink milk as much as I used to, I just have it in my cereal and sometimes with food. I'm trying to drink flavoured water as much as possible now because I loved it and I definitely don't drink enough water.

Yes... milk is Mother Nature's "perfect food" ...for a calf... until it is weaned. Everything you know about cow's milk and dairy is probably part of a Dairy industry MYTH. Cow's milk is an unhealthy fluid from diseased animals that contains a wide range of dangerous and disease-causing substances that have a cumulative negative effect on all who consume it. MILK'S BASIC CONTENTS *ALL* cow's milk (regular and 'organic') has 59 active hormones, scores of allergens, fat and cholesterol. Most cow's milk has measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics (perhaps 53, with LS-50), blood, pus, feces, bacteria and viruses. (Cow's milk can have traces of anything the cow ate... including such things as radioactive fallout from nuke testing ... (the 50's strontium-90 problem). LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH IN AMERICA Rank Total Description 1 724,859 Heart Disease (think fats/cholesterol: meat/dairy) 2 541,532 Malignant Neoplasms (cancer: think toxins/milk/dairy) 3 158,448 Cerebro-vascular (think meat milk and dairy) 4 112,584 Bronchitis Emphysema Asthma (think toxins/milk/dairy) 5 97,835 Unintentional Injuries and Adverse Effects 7 64,751 Diabetes (think milk/dairy)
Drinking too much milk can be bad for you. Apart from the fats involved, the excess calcium can give you kidney stones, which you will have to pass through your urinary tract and can be exceedingly painful.
Excesive milk consumtion cuses anemia.
Drinking more than a quart of milk in a day results in vitamin D overdose, resulting in calcium to be deposited in the soft tissue of the body and mental lethargy.

Yeah Alex, I have a high metabolism too and as I say I've been drinking the full fat stuff all my life but as a few people around here like to have a little snigger about, I'm as thin as. I feel lucky because I love milk and it has none of these bad effects on me that people are saying :D
Wig44.
05-02-2010, 06:12 AM
. .
Excess calcium does not cause kidney stones.
Saturated fat/cholesterol does not cause CHD.
Cows in the EU (and even more stringently so in the UK) are not treated with hormones, cows in the US are however, hence why the writer of your quote (undoubtedly in the US) preaches the dangers of hormone laiden milk. Milk contains hormones anyway, but nothing near the amount mentioned in your quote.
Cows consuming radioactive fallout = US, not UK.
Milk containing blood, pus, faeces, bacteria and viruses = Healthy cows (i.e ones not treated with hormones) and farmers not milking cows that are unhealthy, and the tests in place to ensure these criteria are met in the EU/UK, mean that a lot of the milk you buy in the UK is fit to be consumed raw, the pasteurisation process then reduced bacteria/viruses in the milk further and blood, pus and faeces will not contaminate milk in sanitary farms with healthy cows (this, again, is a problem that the UK is free of).
There is no doubt that there are small concentrations in milk of the cells that taken together in large quantities make up pus, and also very small concentrations of all the cells that make up blood. In essence, you could call milk filtered blood (but it is not blood). But to say that blood and pus are in milk is simply misinforming people and is, well... stupid. Human breastmilk, if you believe that cows milk contains pus, also contains pus.
Excessive milk consumption causes anemia = it has only been found in young children

I used to be addicted to Fanta Fruit Twist. Not really a fan of Orange and I don't think I've even had the Lemon one. My favourite water was the Lemon and Lime one but I think I prefer the other one we get now, not really sure what it is - Raspberry and something

"The answer is the former as long as it's consumed as part of a balanced diet.
Milk is a hugely beneficial food because of its high levels of calcium and vitamin D, both of which are essential for healthy bones and teeth."
Personally, I think drinking milk is ok, just don't go nuts on it.. any bad side affects seem to centre around the fat content in it.
AlexOC
06-02-2010, 05:44 PM
Yeah, i dont wanna get fat, just like you!
But i might stick to drinking flavoured water all day, then a hot glass of milk at night to help me sleep :)
I went on GOMAD last year,
gallon of milk a day diet.. gained lots of lean muscle but it's high in calories.
Aslong as you have a high metabolism then it shouldn't really harm you,
although there are harmful effects from having too much vitamin B in your diet.
And depends on how well your body copes with the lactose

I'm a water man now and it's probs helped me alot in terms of health as I only drank squash, fizzy drinks and juices (which was alot of sugar in the juice). So less sugar and less acids :D But yer water is delicious when you're dieing for a drink.

Alzheimer’s Disease
ALS
Epilepsy
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
EMS
Hypothyroidism
Mercury sensitivity from Amalgam fillings
Fibromyalgia
Lupus
non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Sucralose Side effects
These are in animals, mainly rabbits and rodents
Shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage) (EO56)
Enlarged liver and kidneys. (EO57 & E161)
Atrophy of lymph follicles in the spleen and thymus (EO51, EO56, EO151)
Increased cecal weight (E151)
Reduced growth rate (EO57)
Decreased red blood cell count (EO55)
Hyperplasia of the pelvis (EO57)

Decreased fetal body weights and placental weights (EO32)
Increase glycosylation of hemoglobin (HbA1c) for diabetics (E157)
Sucralose has had NO proper trials in humans, and is in the same stage aspartame was in 20 years ago. It is displaying similarities to aspartame and, whilst probably not as bad, still a serious risk to your health.
Plus plastic leaches into the water from the bottles due to it being in there for days prior to consumption. Unless the water in your area is fluorinated artificially (naturally is fine), there is no need to purchase water other than tap water.
