I love how everyone is going on about how sick they are of the weather, though the last few weeks haven't been that bad. Except maybe yesterday for people north of Birmingham since we did get snow. But by this time next week, Britain is going to once again be in the grip of a huge blast of Easterly air, the kind that we had in late Decemeber/early January that delivered those temperatures of below minus ten and the big snow days. It's currently unclear about how long it's going to last and how intense it will be but you'll definitely hear about it's impending arrival on the news and weather sites over the weekend. It really does look like Britain is having it's coldest winter in a very long time. You heard it hear first!

The white lines going from right to left over the UK show our air being dragged in from Norway and Russia, exactly the same as what happened earlier in January. This is what we could be heading for by next weekend but obviously anything further than four or five days ahead from a meteorologists' point of view is questionable. However, the models for Monday and Tuesday next week show the early stages of the above so it's very likely. It is going to get cold and we will get some snow. It's just a question of how much snow and how intense the cold will be. The answers should be around on Monday. In the meantime, enjoy the "mild" weather! :P

Lovesit. I'm a bit annoyed about it too, I'm meant to be having my driving test on the 17th. :(

For burnley, it snowed loads last night but now it's randomly gone. Even though it left loads of slippy crap on the floor! :@

That only means it'll be settled, it doesn't say anything about temperature. However, north sea convection will become an issue bringing snow from east to west. Be aware that when we had a the big snow event on January 5th, barometric pressure was high.

I'm bored of snow now, novelty has worn off now. It's just not funny to slip over or watch people slip and it just makes peoples lives hell.

I'm surprised this is being labelled as one of coldest winters because I didn't even think it was very cold at all when we had all that snow back in Dec/Jan. And we usually don't get any snow because it's too cold to snow.

It didnt snow at all last night...

It snowed asround 5/6/7 pm non stop for a few hours and then was sleet for an hour or so.

The rest of the night it rained, hence all the snow had gone :P

I havnt really noticed apart from the snow. I mean i'm wearing gloves more, but other than that its easy to cope with.

Just hoping summer will be hot. Then again, people will probably complain about it being TOO hot haha

Yeah, I find as long as it's not windy it's fine. I found myself enjoying myself loads on the walk home from the pub whenever I went out over Christmas. Maybe it never got as cold as -17 where I am, I don't know.

Glad I got this right. East and South-east getting 5-10cms by the end of the week; with next week looking exceedingly cold and snowy. If the current model predictions stay as they are, a country-wide snow event (similar, possibly worse) than the ones we had in January are definitely possible.
