Hey guys, I've decided its time for me to retire my old custom built computer and build a new computer thats just better than the one I currently have. I thought I'd pick all the parts and what not myself but I think it would be more fun if we could discuss my computer build as a group and talk about the parts that would be good and what not. I will be buying two new 24" LG monitors :)

Heres what I'm for sure getting:

- Modular power supply probably Corsair (not sure about wattage)
-2 2.5TB Western Digital Hard Drives (These will be partitioned to 1TB each)
- Intel Core i7 (not sure what one)
- Ram probably Corsair dominator (not sure what ones or how much probably 12GB)
- Corsair Obsidian 800D

REQUIRE: I need a motherboard with Dual Ethernet in

Bolded Dark Blue means not being changed

Also, I live in Canada so I can't buy from the websites you buy from so if you are interested in helping me please consider looking at these websites:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca
http://www.canadacomputers.com
http://www.ncix.com
http://www.newegg.ca
http://www.performance-pcs.com

And anything else Canadian - everyone will get + Rep for your contributions

NOTE: I'm making a performance computer so I want at least 2 videos cards so I can connect them with SLI so don't feel you have to link me to garbage, I'm looking for a quality build with speed and performance

I'd go with 9800GTX x2

and something like a Q6700 will be enough

Just thought I would put the fact that SLI rarely increases performance in games out there.

Also, why do you need x2 NICs?

Just trying to save you money,

If you really want to go with an SLI then something like 9800GTX will be the best option for performance you get.

And with a Q6700 that would give you a great performance and save you some bucks from getting an i7

Unless this has changed? I remember a lot of games weren't actually built for SLI/Crossfire systems and managed to decrease performance in terms of FPS?

@ Soy, no point in a Q6700, Q6600 and then OC it to 3.6GHz ftw ;D

Don't like overclocking personally, but they lowered the price of the 700 by quite a bit, I'd go for that

Yeah it has changed. Games that have come out in the last 3 years have supported multi-gpu solutions. Apart from some games such as GTA IV. But all in all, I will always recommend having a super expensive single card rather than SLI/Crossfire. Microstuttering being the worst disadvantage in my opinion.

I agree with this.

Also, what is your budget? It's ok saying you want a performance computer, but does that mean $1.5k or $10k ?

I agree with Core i5 or i7.

Where are you getting 2.5TB hard drives from?

I agree with Core i5 or i7.

BUDGET!?!?!?!?

My apologies I thought I put this in there probably about $2,500 although that may drop down to $1,500 if I plan on buying some new servers/building some new servers.

So I'd say judge between $1,500 - $2000

Where are you getting 2.5TB hard drives from?

I got an email from http://www.NCIX.ca saying it would be out May 2010.

Edit: Tomm I owe you rep.

I don't think there's much point in a home environment.

The build I posted above doesn't include HDDs by the way. Just an SSD boot drive.

You could use link aggregation if both the router and NIC supports it to "bond" the two connections together to give double the speed.

Or it could just be to connect two ethernet devices.

Tomm answered it.

That's what I was thinking - with the SSD I mean.

Bingo.
