Converting question

Not sure if this is the right forum, sorry it isn't.
Anyway, I'm going on a coach journey on tuesday and I've got a couple of .avi movies I want to convert to .m4v/whatever ipod uses so i can watch them on my nano. I've tried searching google for this many times, only to come up with all that ******** shareware/freeware crap.
Can anyone reccomend me a decent converter, I've tried SUPER, and it doesn't work for some reason. +Rep to everyone that helps

I use "WinAVI MP4 Converter" it works a charm, and it doesn't take THAT long either, maybe 30 minutes :S?

yh this is what I use :) I would say a regular film takes 20 minutes on it :)

I use Allok 3GP PSP MP4 iPod Video Converter, and it's never let me down once.
