I'm looking to play some CoD4 on PC. I have a mediocre GFX card but I was looking for a good one for the cheapest price possible. Any ideas?

How cheap is cheap? £50? £100?

And do you have a PSU that can handle it?

Under £100 (ok, £102 if we're getting technical), I'd go for http://www.ebuyer.com/product/175722

Under £70, I'd go for http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190138

Under £50, I'd go for http://www.ebuyer.com/product/191529

All up to date cards, will serve well with CoD I think.

I need recommendations from you PC buffs out there. Here are my PC specs:
OS - Windows Vista Home Premium
Language - English
System Manufacturer - Dell Inc
System Model - Studio 540
Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33Ghz (4 CPU's)
Memory - 3292MB (I'm on a 32-bit so maximum is 4GB)
Display Device - Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset
Total Approx Memory - 1422MB

I'm assuming my motherboard + graphics card are combined so I'm willing to spend about £150-200 on getting another motherboard + decent graphics card is this is this case.
Thanks for your help.

You don't need a new motherboard AFAIK

I have a 360W.
I'm upgrading to this graphics card here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143189).
I'll need a better PSU for this to work so I'm upgrading to this here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817709014).
Would this work, plus does anyone know a UK retailer for these items?

I can't find the card you wanted on eBuyer, and Scan are currently awaiting an ETA. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/896MB-XFX-GTX-260-55nm-PCI-E-20-%28x16%29-2000MHz-GDDR3-GPU-640-MHz-Shader-1400-MHz-216-Cores is the Scan link.

PSU, on the other hand, this would be your best bet: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124926 I think.

Paul, I'd go with an ATI card, due to the fact you can get DirectX 11, and they are often cheaper for better quality cards. I'd recommend this card: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-Sapphire-HD-5770-Vapor-X-PCI-E-21-%28x16%29-4800MHz-GDDR5-GPU-860-MHz-DL-DVI-Display-PortHDMI but make sure it'll fit in your PC case.

it's extremeley hard to get hold of a GTX 260 in the UK at the moment - i'd either wait till they bring their alternative out, or go Ati (summit like a 4870)

You're willing to spend £150-£200 just to play CoD?

Seriously... don't buy a GFX card unless your going to buy a good amount of games, not just CoD. I suggest you get Sims 3 as well.

I get paid to play cod so why not.

Someone from my subscriber base offered to send me a "ATI Radeon HD 4870" free of charge as it doesnt work on his 64-bit system and he lost his receipt. Should I take this and what PSU would I need.

Yes, take it. Now. And The PSU I posted above will be fine with it.

And lol, it makes no difference that his system is 64-bit, it's clearly an issue other than the type of OS. Don't tell him though otherwise you might not get the card ;).

Yeah, he's sending it tomorrow. I've just gotta' pay for shipping via PP.
How much do you think shipping will cost?

If it's boxed then like £4-5? If not then about £2.

These are rough guesses. Use the royal mail calculator on their website for more accuracy.

I thought it was going to be like £30 lol

Depends how big the box is lol.

It could be more than I put as it's heavier than I though. Maybe like £7. Definately no where near £30.

Right, the card came today in the post. It was indeed a Sapphire HD4870.
I know for sure I'll need a new PSU. What else will I need, my monitor is VGA and the card's output is DVI so I was wondering should I just get a DVI to HDMI adapter and then plug it straight into my 32'' TV. The card's box says HDMI support. I was wondering also if someone could recommend a nice cheap gaming mouse + keyboard for me too along with a good and low-priced PSU that will support this card.

The card would've come with a DVI to VGA adaptor and probably a DVI to HDMI (a lot of those cards did).

I'd recommend sticking to your montor rather than TV to be honest. It's probably a better resolution and at a distance/position more suitable for gaming and using a keyboard + mouse.

Maybe buy this PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135159 Never buy a "budget" PSU.
DVI to VGA: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130561
DVI to HDMI: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164639

Will that PSU support the card?
My monitor is only 17'' ¬_¬

Yes the PSU will.

Is your setup suitable for you using the TV as monitor?
