i say most guys normally wear polos and shirts or hoodies.
and match it up with a good pair of jeans and some simple accessories.
nothing too obvious and there you go :)

I can see you with a side fringe.
Grow your hair, if its naturally puffy like it is in that photo, then straighten it a bit. But make it a casual side fringe, not a forced ones. Thats one way to look trendy easily.
Fashion-wise - dress smart.

With hair like that you should not be trying to gel it lol, unless you straighten it first - it looks far too tightly curled and thick for it otherwise.
For clothes it's important to get things that will go together rather than just a selection of things that are individually nice. If you like current fashion then you can either get a lobotomy to fix that or if that's too drastic go to places like Topman and H&M for their flimsy shirt-inside-cardigan look which should be easy enough to work because they often sell them as sets so you know it ought to "go" together.
If you prefer a more casual look that doesn't make you look like you're wearing pyjamas or have just come off the set of Mary Poppins auditioning for the chimney sweep role then you just have to follow basic fashion rules. With jeans/shirt (or t-shirt)/jacket combos you want the colours to be split properly, not generally wearing all one colour although full black can work. Avoid wearing a blue top with black jeans, although the other way round does look good for some reason. A nice pair of Levis always looks good as they generally fit well in a straight leg cut, and won't ever go out of style - blue jeans with a plain white t-shirt and then an open shirt (not Hawaiian..) over it is pretty much the ultimate in casual styling.
Most important thing is not to try too hard. Buying yourself a bright pink pair of chinos and a scarlet shirt won't make anyone feel like they look good unless they are mentally challenged, you need to find clothes you feel comfortable in without making yourself stick out like a sore thumb
yeah don't gel hair that thick and curly don't bother growing or straightening it either because it will be so much effort to straigthen it every time you go out because it would look weird that curly and long. I think i'd go for it a bit shorter then it is now and leave it maybe try diffrent things with it but never spike it like that.
Polos, Shirts, and zip hoodies are in but aren't you from AU or something so you might be into diffrent stuff. Jeans are good as are boardies in the summer which i think you're in. So yeah just go on english websites and see what the male models are wearing and see stuff your like and then try and get something like that. Develop your own stuyle you're compfortable with :)!!

Go for a colour you like, like I like light blue, I try and buy tops that aren't really that dark, because I like lighter colours, decide what types of jeans or pants you like a buy a variety, you'll never know if you don't try, and just be yourself, don't try and wear something that you clearly don't feel comfortable in.
