Which version do you prefer

Gary Jules: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4
or
Tears for Fears: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXuXikfIYHY

Gary Jules, probably because I heard it first and am more used to it. Although I think the Tears for Frears' one is a little bit too fast.

Hah, this is quite pathetic.

You asked me to do it.

Yes, because by sarcastically telling you to find the ratio, I meant to create a poll on an internet forum full of teenagers who weren't born when the song was released. Hopeless.

That song always reminds me of Donnie Darko and that messed up rabbit.

Tears for Fears' original version is much better.

Probably because the cover song was specifically recorded for that film.

gary jules version.

Gary Jules version is way better than Tears for Fears. Basically, he bring out the emotion of the song while Tears for Fears version is too fast and i cant feel anything.

BUT! Adam Lambert's version ftw! :D

Misawa

Note that Tears for Fears' is the ONLY true vision of the song. Jules' is just an interpretation.

Well imo the tears for fears one is terrible, no where near as good as the gary jules version.

majority disagrees.

By "majority", you mean a couple of posts on an internet forum which has an audience of mostly 15 year-olds? That makes perfect sense in the grand scheme of things, doesn't it? Riveting.

Adamm
26-02-2010, 02:44 PM
How would you go about proving it then, sir?

Compare one of the biggest bands and hits of the '80s to a one hit wonder? Hmm. It isn't rocket science.

Doesn't matter if he was a one hit wonder. His interpretation was pretty good and wasn't necessarily aimed at the same demographic. Anyway the Tears for Fears guys did well on songwriting royalties from it and it renewed interest in the band. All subjective - nobody's right and nobody's wrong but people should be allowed to express their opinion. End of.

We're on about the song, not the artist.

If you have such an issue with this forum having an audience of 'mostly 15 year olds' that just leaves me to wonder why you're here?

And for the record I don't like either really.

Misawa

I have no "issue". I was pointing out the demographic to someone who doesn't have a very logical understanding of the world. As usual people butt in without actually knowing what's going on.

But you assume just because we're young we haven't heard the Tears for Fears version? Where as they might have and do just prefer Gary Jules'..

Just to clear things up, the argument about the two songs originated in a different thread which is why people are getting the wrong end of the stick as this thread has taken it out of context (and was only created to fuel the argument anyway). It essentially revolves around Adamm's problem with Misawa for supposedly not allowing him to express his own opinion while ironically belittling Misawa's opinion in the process. Just a vicious circle :P

Gary Jules version. I appreciate it for the sound, I don't care that the artist was a one trick pony.

Judging from the poll, it's not.

Wow, surprised no one spotted that until now. :P

It's a shame how Donnie Darko is usually remembered for Gary Jules' cover of Mad World when another fantastic Tears For Fears song is actually used to accompany what I believe to be the best sequence in the entire film. Possibly one of the best sequences ever, in fact. I am of course talking about the school scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJOQYijlxuY). Laa la-la laa-la. La la la laa-la.

This thread is asking a simple question, which song members like better. There is no need for them to "know what's going on".

this trailer pretty much made me want to play GoW, so I suppose it served it's purpose pretty well. the GoW trailers have always been pretty awesome imo

an internet forum full of teenagers who weren't born when the song was released. Hopeless.

Not to take anything away from your own views, but you weren't born in 82 either, so you can't really use that as a way of belittling anyone's opinion on this.

In case anyone's interested, I don't like either version as neither cater to my taste - although I wouldn't try to pretend that's a valid argument against the creativity of either version. There are plenty of covers that I prefer to originals and vice versa, it just so happens that in this case I wasn't wowed by anyone's attempt.

This is a great song. A lot of people confuse the meaning. It is originally about bullying.

What? So if your point is that you can't belittle someone's opinions because you weren't born in 1982, why are you then proceeding to belittle people's opinions. You make absolutely no sense

As I said, people don't understand the point of this thread, and I am beyond explaining.
