What CPU is it? For example:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz

It will be useful to mention this, so whoever can find a solution (incase the chip is a bit weak and powerless) :)

Pentium Dual Core t4300 @2.10GHz

my laptops a 64-Bit aswell so most programs run at 64-bit so it could increase the usage right?

If it's not slowing down, then let it be

Go to task manager click processes and watch to see if there's any one process using a lot of your CPU. That was the case on my moms laptop, some old Microsoft Works calendar process was using all of her CPU.

Well - the non-active system things shouldn't be looked at.

When you have Firefox open - What do you have open? Lots of pages?
Do you have any add-ons that might slurp stuff?

Somthing has gone wrong there. Driver fault? Hardware?

check some programs being used, for me have certain programs running which you can choose to take up max CPU or normal or even low CPU you might also have that option on certain things so turn them all to low ?

Open up Run (Hold down Windows Key + R), type in msconfig

And click the "Startup" tab, untick any unnecessary programs which begin when you login to Windows. This should stop any unnecessary applications adding to your CPU Processes. Make sure you don't untick any Microsoft processes though otherwise you'll mess your PC up :P

First of all, try another browser, if you want low memory usage. I would suggest the latest Opera version or Safari for the lowest memory usage. Here's a graph comparing them (Firefox some how performs well here but it's best to ignore it when it comes to Firefox as it's so varying)

I also suggest disabling Facebook Chat. If you want to talk to people using Facebook Chat, use a service like Meebo.com which doesn't pass over all the crappy bugs built into it.

Does it have Windows 7? When I got my laptop 2 months ago it was using 100% because of 'wmpnetwk.exe'

Technologic, If you go Ctrl + Alt + Del and 'Start Task Manager', click the 'Processes' tab, tick the box that says 'Show processes for all users' that might show you some processes that weren't there before.
