Which phone should i get?

Hi guys,

I was thinking of changing my hand phone. But just could not figured out which type of hand phone to buy. Wanted to aim for Apple iPhone 3GS, but it's very very expensive for me.

Any hand phone that you guys would recommend? My budget is below £150.

My Preference:
Comes with built-in GPS
Touch Screen
Able to access to Facebook, Twitter, E-mail and Internet (Wi-fi)

don't get a dumb phone (and yes by my definition a blackberry is not a smartphone).

In my eyes there are only two variants of phones worth while getting on the current market: an Android phone (such as a Nexus one) or an iPhone. Anything else probably wont be good enough.

try getting a 3g mate, instead of 3gs :) you could probably get one on a cheap contract.

If you drop the GPS you'll find there's much better options for £150 (A broad range of Samsungs). However if you want a smartphone with GPS for that price I suggest looking second hand at Cex.co.uk or eBay.co.uk

yeah, look on ebay for an iphone. theres some pretty good deals on there.

if you're buying second hand make sure to get the IMEI before paying, and then call the phone carrier to make sure the phone's not stolen otherwise it's most likely blacklisted and you cannot activate it.

Most iPhones still seem out of budget, even 3G models go for around £200. You could probably get one in poor condition or a first generation iPhone for £150 on eBay though.

Nokia N95 and N96, HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro and the T-Mobile G1 are all good phones to consider getting second hand.

Not that it matters, but what mobile network are you with? Some do pretty good exchange deals etc. :)

Because he wants a smartphone judging by the specs in the first post, he seems like the sort of person who'd want to tinker with things. Also smartphones tend to be more powerful so you'd have a better experience browsing and using gps and stuff on a smartphone :)

Gona have to agree. Dave just because you don't like Blackberrys doesn't mean other people shouldn't get one. I have one and I'm perfectly happy with it. Yes it might not be the perfect phone but for the price and contract that I got with it, and the fact that it is a smartphone and a good one at that is enough for me. It probably isn't as good as an iphone but it cost me a lot less than an iphone would have.

And yeah I got my Blackberry 9700 for £28 a month. It has all of that bar Touch screen which is upto you really but it's a good phone.

I'm not trolling. Crapberries are just that: crap. The blackberry operating system (which is getting yet again revised might I mention due to continued crappiness) is better suited to run on my wrist watch. It loses in most every category. Okay.. Samsung Jet is kind of too much for my budget. And i have to re-consider another phone.. The new Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 look great.. Wonder does it have the features i mentioned?

Because the majority of the praise was from older blackberry devices and the current praise has absolutely no relevance to actual smartphone features which the market is progressing towards focusing on (camera, web browser, appstore, gaming) because the blackberry cannot do these things, therefore the gap between it and a modern smartphone is widened.

For a person who wants a non smart-phone then yes a blackberry is a candidate. From a smartphone perspective it's a 16bit os in a 64bit world.

If you didn't want touchscreen, the Sony W715 would be ideal, but its only on Vodafone.

It's a tad old now, but the Nokia 5800 does all the things you've mentioned.
