View Full Version : PS3 Error: 8001050F/Do not turn on PS3 today!

I got this error whilst trying to sign in to go on MW2 online.

I've seen on forums that you have to request a replacement.

I bought my PS3 off my mate, second hand. Will I still get a replaced PS3?

Or does anyone know a way to solve? if there is a way.

Thanks, all helpful answers receive +rep ||

There is a MAJOR PS3 error today. Turning the console on will corrupt save data!

MAJOR worldwide error. People suspect it's to do with the leap year as it's March 1st. Turning your console on - just doing that - will corrupt your save data.

twitter.com/sonyplaystation

Sony are asking people to follow that for updates.

Slims are unaffected.

Check your save data IMMEDIATELY! LittleBigPlanet corrupted for me. I know Heavy Rain has done the same for people.

Corrr, this has caused more hassle than what changing to 2000 ('00) did 10 years ago :P

Turned it on. Didn't work. Now annoyed. I don't care too much if my save data goes though. Would only annoy me because of COD.

Calm down all. It's something to do with the PS3's internal clock. not the OS one.

What happened

After further searching I came across a pretty good theory on what happend besides (HACKERS) and here it is,

The going theory is that the PS3 is storing some form of date in GMT, then modifying that to get whatever you see in the on-screen clock. That modification process seems to be fine--the system can take 2/28/2010, 9PM GMT, add four hours, and get 3/1/2010, 1AM random time zone.

What's apparently effed, as speculation goes, is when the internal GMT-tracking rolls over to 3/1. It's either not rolling, or rolling to 2/29, at which point a system tries to add/subtract from 2/29, which it can't do because the front-end calendar doesn't have a 2/29/2010, and $#!T explodes. Seemed to happen around 4PM PDT, which I think is 12AM GMT, so.

And the PS3 launched in 2006; it's hit 4 2/28s so far. 2007 and 2009 were odd-numbered years; 2008 was an even, and a leap year. 2010 is the first even non-leap-year the system's been around for. If some sort of base-level math is choking on itself, it may have ruled out the odd 2007 and 2009 successfully, but is convinced the even 2010 is a leap year (this part I'm less sure of, but is why leap year could theoretically come into play at some point.)

People worried about Data

"Everyone READ THIS PLEASE. Here's what's going on right now: something with the PS3's internal clock has borked in some pre-slim models. This is not a PSN issue; it has to do with your PS3's clock. This clock is NOT related to the OS clock. It seems to be a leap year bug. Setting your clock ahead will do nothing. All PS3s around the world were affected at the exact same time.

Does this affect me?
-If you have a Slim PS3, you're good to go. Continue playing it as normal.
-If you have a "fat" PS3, you may be affected. Some fat PS3s have worked ok, but it seems a good majority have been bugged. What does this bug mean?
-If affected, your date and time has been set to a random past date. This prevents you from signing into PSN, playing any PSN games, or using any DLC. Your trophies will also not display correctly or be able to sync.

How do I fix it?
-You can't. Even if you don't sign into PSN, it won't help. This is a hardware issue.

So, what do I do?
-Wait 24 hours. Other products that have had similar bugs have corrected themselves after the "bugged" day. On Monday around 6pm central time, all PS3s will automatically correct themselves...maybe.
-If that doesn't work, we'll need a firmware update from Sony, which should be a pretty important priority for them right now.

Did I lose my data/themes/etc?
Your save data/games/dlc/themes are fine. They'll be fixed when the PS3 is fixed. Trophies are uncertain right now, but they'll be fine if you've synced them before the PS3 was bugged. Unsynced trophies are an unknown right now.

If I have a bugged PS3, can I still use it?
It's probably not a good idea, as I have no idea what will happen to the trophies you earn during the bugged time. Movies/media will work fine."

Oh that's true. Well as long as it works soon I'm not too fussed.

FlyingJesus
01-03-2010, 03:48 PM
From what I heard off a friend who has a ps3 it erases all of your trophies etc and then won't allow the games to run because the trophies (which obviously aren't there) can't be synched for play. Not too useful really

01-03-2010, 03:50 PM
Basically something to do with the PS3 internal clock thinking it's a leap year and it's goes all weird and all goes all the way back to 1999/2000. Just wait till 2/3/10 and see what happens. Sony are working on it. Check their twitter.

it's funny cos' last night when i found that i couldn't get signed in, I was messing with my theme settings then realised my clock has never been correct, so I updated it. It's still the incorrect time. I don't know how it's funny but.. (:

This is not a '360 is better' thread. These are getting as common and as annoying as the speed test threads. It's nothing to do with how good the ps3 is. I'd rather have a console which has 1 error which is fixable in a couple of days, rather than having a RROD

"Well the gist is that the ARM SYSCON CPU that is used to power up the front panel of the ps3, that is responsible for doing things like sleep mode, eject, RTC etc. Is an old batch that sony picked up from the shelf like other manufacturers that has that calendar year bug regarding feburary 29th on certain periods. Causing the ps3 and the real time system clock to desync, messing up timing like Digital Rights Management software and sometimes games that relies on clocks for whatever reason.

This is the same CPU that is powering up mobile devices like zune and blackberries, they have been affected with this bug, so they done some software patches. A syscon update can also fix this problem

The Slims ps3s aren't affected with this problem because they use a newer up to date revision on the syscon cpu that fixes this bug, this cpu is always on even when your ps3 is powered off.

A quick way to fix this is to remove the RTC battery for at least 5-10 min and plug it back in, you will see the date and time reset, and voila...

BTW all this was quoted from some ps3 hardware gurus and tested by various of peeps on efnet, all thanks to them for the information"

Supposedly the cause

xbox 360 will always will own ps3

Your console had the same problem... for two weeks.

Fanboy.

My friend suggested that the internal clock is differently default on the Slim PS3s, so this problem COULD have been avoided.

You can download the update on computers and then turn the router off, and put the ps3 into recovery and install the patch

Don't see what turning them on will do to affect it. They're just saying it as a precaution as it seems to be a bug and you don't really know what to expect with them.

How old is it? It's likely alot will not be affected. Different chipsets and whatever are usually used in the same product, but work near enough exactly the same. Sky Boxes follow the same idea :)

they advise you not to so not much can be done to them as they've told you.

Fez

Waiting might not solve the problem, because the internal clock has reset itself, it's quite difficult for systems to suddenly realize "Oh yeah it's 2010." without manual input.

I'm guessing a patch is in order.

But that leaves a whole lot of gamers without an internet connection.

I turned it on and off myself. My friend kept signing in and out last night (before this) for some reason then it worked so just thought i'd do that. I turned my PS3 off by the touch thing last night instead of the ps3 menu thing and when I do that it screws up the system saying I turned it off wrong so I thought my ps3 was screwed.

But if they would make millions of people pay (considering it affected many users), it would kick off and it wouldn't look good for Sony one bit.

If I was an XBOX fanboy I would be saying pwnedddddddddddd lol. I hardly play on mine though so wasn't affected (used it since and it's fine). My mate was telling me at the time though and it sounded crazy! Can't understand why slims weren't affected considering it was a glitch on the network - which I would have assumed was the same network which is used by all PS3s.

Anyway, see you in four years! :D
