You really shouldn't buy one of these, epecially if you haven't had a 'feel' of them.
The keys are really small and so is the screen. I've hardly seen anyone with these, with most people opting for the touch screen phones, which by the way are a much cheaper alternative.
But, if you want a Blackberry, you could get a cheap second hand one from eBay, Amazon, A online auction site, or a shop in your local town which the bailiffs have removed from peoples houses (My brother got a 42" TV which only cost £150)

Seriously just leave it. I think we all understand that you don't like Blackberrys but there is no need to go on about it for gods sake. He said he wants to find a BB and all you can go on about is how bad it is. That's not what he has asked David and your posts are really annoying now. You don't like Blackberrys and I understand why but there's no need to force your opinions about it to other people.

John, it's not that I don't like them (what gave that away ;)) it's that he could do a lot better for the buck. There's phones for the same price that have a lot more features (more and better applications such as internet apps, bigger and better (multitouch) screen, better form factor). It's not my opinion that Android and iPhoneOS are better: stating that is objective now, because it's unarguably true:P

Agreed. Why pay so much for a used blackberry when you can dish out the extra cash and get a android or iPhone, both of those have more practical uses than a blackberry.

It's just a more practical buy. The blackberry is a dumbphone pretending to be a smartphone because it's Canadian creator company doesn't really understand where the market's going these days, a lot of people don't realize this.

It's all down to personal choice though. I could have got any phone I wanted for my Birthday bar the iphone because I thought it was too expensive and I chose a Blackberry because I liked it myself. I know there are better phones out that may be cheaper but I liked the Blackberry more so I got it. I can see what you mean and yeah most of what you say is true but still there's no need to force it on other people.

I can see how you think I'm forcing this upon people, but I do stand by what I said. It isn't a matter of opinion anymore because it's quite factual that there's platforms with more to offer and just plain old better features than my old pal' the blackberry. This isn't a question of is a Mac or a PC better. It's a matter of is my PC from 1993 better than my PC of 2010 :)

What about the idea that the iPhone/Android firmwares are constantly being reinvented with new features, and the blackberry OS is just a mockery??? It has little to no functionality, and the "applications" that they have my old razr could run.

They're just inconsistent. If this was a 2004 market I would accept their end product as sound. Their devices are so much software limited and so much feel like a phone over a computer, that it's sickening. If you were sold a Blackberry and told it was a smartphone, you have been duped :P

I've had my BBc900 for about a year now and I love it. I dont use all the features on the phone but I find it seriously useful for everything, day to day things like dentist appointments, things I need to remember for school are pretty easy to set memo's etc up for so that I remember. You've spoken to me before about the OS's Dave and it just go's over my head which I think for the majority of most people it would aswell and it's just down to personal preference. I think most people that want a Blackberry have in their head some idea of what they actually want to use it for other wise they would opt for another mobile phone.
That being said I do agree that iPhones are good but its down to you're own preference, what you're going to be using it for and what you like the look of best. Just because a phones statistics are better it doesn't mean someone would prefer to have that than an alternative. I mean if you wanted to buy an Aston Martin, you wouldn't necessarily buy a Ferrari instead because it goes a bit faster you buy it down to what you like about it and what you want to use it for.

Ive got a Blackberry and I love it, I did used to have the Curve 8900 but I dropped in my dog bowl so I bought the 8520 (a downgrade but i'm getting an iPhone soon) - Its a good phone for browsing the internet, texting, emailing and some apps are pretty neat. I would try ebay for one really... For everyone slagging them off, don't let them put you off. I know loadsa people who have them and love them, you just gotta know how to work them and use them properly :)

Android vs iPhone is personal preference. The Blackberry vs android or iPhone cannot be personal preference because the Blackberry is old stuff, compared to the standards now it's no longer a true smartphone, so it's like comparing any other dumbphone to an iphone. You can't legitimately do that because the iPhone was built to do more, it was built to accomplish more and provide the user with better and more functionality. And so it's not down to personal preference as if they are two products that can accomplish similar things, because they're not. It's down to what you intend to accomplish.

No you aren't understanding. I don't have a problem with people prefering a nonsmartphone over a smartphone (which is the case of the blackberry). I only have a problem when people discuss blackberries, regarding them as smartphones and as a device that is the iphones equal. Because it's not :p

The only niggle I have with Blackberrys is that the signal on some networks (Orange mainly) is dreadful. I have a friend with a Blackberry and they're not the nicest things to message. If I message him on Facebook, the BB reads it and doesn't notify him, and texts take ages to come through. But that might just be Orange hating on O2 :P

You must be referring to when I was hating on Windows Vista. And so, I think your post doesn't really prove a valid point, because people often talk too well about something they like, when they've never experienced something better.

They are dumbphones, because they lack features of the modern smartphone. As I said this is no longer 2005. I and most others who want smartphones expect more than a WAP quality browser and horrible application availability.

Smartphones have all the things you've listed. What you're moaning about is the Blackberry has a terrible web browser and apps. Like calling a Robin Reliant a crap car because it has terrible wheels, suspension and a terrible reliability complex. It's still a car non-the-less :P
You could go about it this way, you seem to be stating the small screen and crap camera are the problems... So when the next generation of smart phones come about, does that mean the current iPhone, Nexus One and so forth are immediately removed from the Smartphone list, because the camera and screen sizes are too small? Oh. It has in my opinion a great form factor. It's simple. Yes it's not as customizable but that makes it more to the point. You can listen to music on it, and the qwerty and trackball on most blackberries makes it comfortable to use. It will do your facebook, twitter and email fine if that's all you need. I like those qualities. That satisfies the needs of a lot of people. I still say it does not meet the requirements for a 2010 definition of a smartphone. I can accomplish a lot of tasks that I can on my Windows 7 or OS X computer on Windows 2000. But I wouldn't use Windows 2000 when I have amazing and wonderfully fast Windows 7 :)

You're slurring your point :/ You were saying how the Blackberry is not a smartphone, now you're saying the Blackberry range is no where near as good as the iPhone... No-one was disputing that, the person was just asking what Blackberry would be in their price range :/ So you come along picking up a pointless argument in the first two posts you made, which is incredibly unhelpful, especially as it is becoming quite clear you're just having a mindless rant, and just want to pick arguments with those around you.

BlackBerry phones aren't for me, but preference is subjective. For many business users, a BlackBerry or Nokia Exx is subjectively better than an iPhone, even though the user experience is inferior.
It still irks me that you're prepared to stand by your assertion of BlackBerry ≠ smartphone... which is flat-out wrong. It also bothers me that you let (anti-)fanboy phrases get in the way of providing the OP with sound advice. We're both in the same camp here, but I try to keep exaggerated bias out of my replies.
Your leading responses have totally derailed the thread and will only serve to confuse the OP when he sees petty BlackBerry insults. If he wants a BlackBerry, I hardly think it's our place to say "don't get one, they are ****".

I am not making assertions or making fanboy remarks. I have facts to back me up :)
Facts suggesting RIM do not produce smartphones? I'd very much like to see these facts.
(And yeah, littering threads with the term 'Crapberry' is fanboy behaviour.)

So you're saying compared to iPhoneOS or Android the blackberry is on fair competitive terms :P

I totally understand how you would think it's my opinion and not fact, but that honestly isn't the case here. We're comparing old technology to new technology, something with less features to more features. Blackberries compare poorly to a G1, just like a G1 compares poorly to a Nexus One.

HotelUser, please just shut up. No-one asked for an opinion from you, or anyone for that matter. He was just asking what he could get for his price range.

Hardly? |-) You name a feature which i cannot do on a BlackBerry, which i would want/require/need on a daily need.

Your individual needs are irrelevant when comparing features of something?
If it works for you use it, but don't tell me it fairly compares to Android just because you like it, because it most certainly doesn't. I can't open and download from a list of 1,000s of free apps, I can't go in a full HTML multi-touch web browser, I can't take high quality pictures.

My HTC Hero crashes constantly and is basicaly unuseable at times because it runs that slow.

Yes, the Blackberry OS is usually fast.

The ROM that most carriers ship with the Hero sucks. If you still have it check out XDA-dev forums for some custom roms. I'm using one called Super-D and my HTC Dream has never been faster :)

Doesn't changing the ROMs void the warranty?
Also I can't even do that as the ****** HTC Sync doesn't work with win7.

It voids the warranty if you run a custom ROM when you take it in. If you need to take your hero in you can simply flash back to the stock rom :)
Ditch HTC sync. Just plug it into your computer and on android hit use as USB storage.

And i can visit any website i need, without it buggering up too? Yet to find a website which ***** up actually :) And there's many apps for the BB, only difference is the BB has usefull apps and not **** ones like "write your name in soap bubbles" for the iphone ;)

No.
1. The moto droid has a 5 megapixel camera.
2. You can visit websites, they just tend to look like this:
http://hotcellularphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/RIM-working-to-add-full-Flash-Silverlight-to-BlackBerry-Browser.png good luck browsing CNN full version lol...
3. What you said about applications is clearly foolish. This is the exact same IM applications for the blackberry and the iPhone:

Without doubt the user interface prevails on the iPhone. Similar deal with Android :)
As far as application availability goes, the blackberry is too low to fit on the graph:P

The first one is down to settings and how you display it. Along with a theme.
And secondly, that link is full on crap? Wow, lets stare at grass growing, or invert colours. OMGZZZ.

Sorry to rain on you guise's parade but if im totally honest, Blackberry is crap, used to be good, now it's not.
The only real contenders left are iPhoneOS, Android and Maemo, although all are aimed at different markets. Android will do just about everything, but if you want the corporate services, which I doubt any HXF users do, then Blackberry wins, although it's only a matter of time before a Blackberry client is released for Android.
Android looks nicer than Blackberry OS
Android is 99% open source and so easily modded by the community
Android runs on a whole bunch of different hardware, Blackberry doesn't
Android has a fully open market, Blackberry don't
Android is extremely customizable without needing to mod anything at all, just download an app or two and away you go, Blackberry... well... isn't.
Blackberry will do corporate e-mail and other business services.
I know I am biased towards Android here, but it really is the truth.

I've changed my Blackberry with what, two apps?
A) New theme
B) Light system.
The rest i can do by moving folders to where i like, which generally does what i need.

Fair enough David but the person who created the thread isn't asking your opinion on the product nor to discuss it, their asking were can they get one for 120.00. Therefore loads of you are going off topic, I can almost guarantee that if I was you, posting all these off-topic comments they would get edited. That's besides the point though.
OT:
Haven't a clue try amazon, its way safer than ebay anyways.
