I have a HUGE red cold sore at either side of my lip.
Anyone have an idea how to get rid of it over night?

Hepatitis is what gives cold sores. You have it. I have it. 75 percent of the population have it.

And it never goes away. Ever.

Anyway Zovirax is good for cold sores, although it won't go away over night, it'll dry it up. They are a nuisance.

Yep, i'm afraid you have it for life now (don't worry - not visible 100% of the time!)

To cover it or help it heal use some Vasoline or Savlon or any other similar creams.

Also 'Compeed' have a good cold sore treatment, just forgot what it's called now but visit their website :)

Cover cold sores with a protective petroleum-based product. This will speed healing and help protect it from secondary infection with bacteria.

To apply a product to your cold sore, wash your hands with hot, soapy water (before and after) and gently dab a generous amount to the surrounding area and directly on to the cold sore, working your way inwards to avoid spreading the virus out.

If it is still bad,go see a GP

Hepatitis is a desease of the liver and has nothing to do with cold sores. It is Human papilloma virus (HPV).
Zovirax cold sore cream is good and a old fashioned thing is to use TCP which you can get at the chemist although it does sting a bit.

I've never known them go away in less than a week tbh, Try not to open your mouth too wide when it drys up, it'll crack it and get really painful.

Actually there's HPV, and there's herpes (what Misawa meant I think, giving him the benefit of the doubt which is rare) which is also known as HSV - Herpes Simplex Virus. :D

Cold sores are pretty god dam annoying, especially when you get the worst sort. I think that's called impetigo? I had that once when I was in primary school. The best way to get rid of them fast is by catching them early so if you feel one coming then place the cream onto the area. I normally get them when im ill and the immune system is low or when I go on holiday aboard and the climate changes.

Edit: I have never had any that just went overnight, they do last for a couple of days at least.

It's a form of Herpes. If it's large and puss-filled, sterilize a small needle and stick it in the side of it to drain the puss. Then follow up with some cream.
