Fox are expected to make the official announcement this week that 24 (my favourite show of all time) will be cancelled after the eighth season. It will be the longest running espionage-orientated TV show of all time once the season ends. Despite having very strong ratings throughout it's 8 years, it's taken a slight dive since the new season began, and apparently it's enough for Fox to cancel it - that and its high production costs. Personally I'm gutted as there has never been a show I have enjoyed more. Ever.
Regardless, a film will still be made and we can hope that NBC or another major network buy it off Fox.
This is so disappointing! I love 24 beyond reason. It's such a shame :(.

It's devastating. To thinks absolute drivel like Glee gets a second series, and 24 with DOUBLE the ratings gets canned...

I think its because they have changed jack so much over the last two seasons and that he is finally settling back down in some sort of way. I for one miss those scenes where he just goes mad at those who go against him which they seem to make him very calm in these days.
Gutted if it's true though.

Like I said - one of the strongest ratings draws in the US. There was no reason to cancel it - it was a machine.

Kiefer always said Season 8 was the last one and the contract ends. They said they couldn't ask the writers to do a film and a series at the same time. They plan to do the film based in NY, London etc.
I looked forward to every January for 24. Its the best show on TV. But unfortunately, after season 5, they ruined it. The writers made some terrible decisions.

We can cry together. After being with the show for 8 years, it's really sad :(. I loved the show. Regardless of how predictable its becoming, I still love 24. No doubt S6-8 are nothing like S 1-5 but are still good to watch. If they stuck to their original S6 ending which was bringing Tony in at the end, then I think S7 would have been much better, followed by S8. Unfortunately a moron decided to leak it.
One thing I hate is how they dont tell us what happened to characters. Forget Behrooz from S4, but characters like Logan, Tony etc, they just disappear and its sad. The writers need to tell us what happened to them - however Logan is meant to reappear this season.

24 is one of my favourite TV shows alongside Smallville & Chuck. Gutted that it's canclled!

Never really watched it yet but it's always been on my agenda so I am a bit gutted. Given me a bit more incentive though to catch up while it has stopped moving - could always make a return!

I cant wait for the movie. They said they have several ideas. They might do the movie as a past operation of Jack which he has referred or. Or the mission he went on with Saunders (Drazen one I think it was). Or they might bring back Tony, Michelle etc and do a movie where even Palmer is alive <---- that one last I would loveeee!

I'd rather they end it properly in film form, rather than go back into the past. Jack's character has been developed SO much since the first season and he has changed so much that I'd much rather the film be relevant to who he is at the end of season 8.

The problem with having it in the past is that you know who will and wont die (as in Tony, Michelle, Chloe, Palmer etc), so half the suspense goes out the window - so they probably wont do that, however, I would love to see the film have all the old characters even if means setting it in the past. But if they do it in the future, I hope they dont bore us with Renee's messed up character. I hope they bring back Tony and have him redeem himself and Jack trust him again somehow .. or atleast a bit.

If you want to see more of Dennis Haysbert, watch The Unit - a great show!

Depends on the character to be honest.
Hmmm "The Unit is an American action-drama television series that focuses on a top-secret military unit modeled after the real-life special forces unit commonly known as Delta Force. "
Interesting. Might watch it later tonight, thanks! +rep

An update - the cast and crew wrapped the 24th and final episode of season eight the other day, and they were then told that the show is over. They refuse to take it to another network like NBC, despite their interest in picking the show up, as they feel that after eight seasons, it's time for the show to come to a close. The final couple of scripts were edited to end the show a little differently, and Fox are still going to do a feature film, so Kiefer Sutherland said the other day that the 24th episode will lead nicely into the film.
