To make a long story short, the hard drive needs replacing. I'm led to believe you can put any 1.8" hard drive in its place, the cheapest i've seen is this.

Obviously that's in an external case, so would I be able to rip the drive out of that and plug it into my ipod?
I'm hoping Jin or anyone else with super ipod knowledge will be able to help me out :)

You'd need to use a hard disk built specifically for an iPod. Toshiba make the hard disk in your current iPod

http://www.command-tab.com/2007/03/11/upgrading-ipod-hard-drives/ has a list of the ones that would be compatible with your device.

I would suggest eBay or an iPod parts store for obtaining one, though.

I've heard its pretty easy to replace it with a flash drive and that makes it SOO much faster. there's a video on cnet about it I think, I'll see if I can find it
