View Full Version : [Film] Inception

New film by Christopher Nolan (the director of The Dark Knight, Memento and Insomnia). All I can say is holy crap special effects have come a long way. Not much has been revealed about the plot and Nolan himself wants to keep the info surrounding it to as little as possible, so here is a fairly vague plot synopsis;
"In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a single idea within one's mind can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset."
Also, looks like DiCaprio is making a come back seeing as how he is the lead role in both Inception and Shutter Island, which are both bound to be major blockbusters. The film also starrs Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page and Michael Caine. It will be released on the 16th of July in America and most probably on the same day in the UK, although this has yet to be confirmed. You can watch the first trailer here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HilwtqaN4Gs) and the second trailer here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3XzUYd6nrU).

I hope its not a giant special effects hack-job.
It's Nolan so I don't expect it to be. Looking forward to it really.

We don't have our review up yet, but my editor saw it yesterday and called it a masterpiece.

The clip they showed on Jonathan Ross was rather impressive. However, I am annoyed at how everyone is saying it hasn't been done before and its the most original thing since films began etc, when it fact it instantly reminds me of Satoshi Kon's animated film Paprika (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851578/). The two seem to have a lot of similarities, including a scene which is almost a frame for frame copy (http://www.heyuguys.co.uk/2010/06/22/new-inception-featurette-the-characters/). I am sure Christopher Nolan drew inspiration from Kon's masterpiece.
Can't book tickets yet. Oh well.
I'm looking forward to the Screenjabber review, Adam.

From the trailers it initially reminded me of The First Matrix film lol XD
I'm hoping to see this on the same day as Toy Story 3 :D. Mega movie day.

Just came back from seeing it. I thought it was epic. Quite a long film, but time just flew by because I enjoyed myself so much. The ending was done really well, especially when;
The little metal thing kept spinning as though it was never going to stop, but then just before the end it began to wobble as if it was going to topple to show that he wasn't dreaming and it was reality. Just before it happened though the screen when black and the credits rolled; so we never knew whether he was still dreaming or not (sequel maybe?)

^ Just back too lol. It was a good film, story was original as far as anything I've encountered and the effects were amazing. The story itself was quite complex and I think I'd need another couple watch throughs to get better aquainted with the concepts and ground rules of the dreamscapes, even though I understood the underlying plot fine.
Specifically, who's subconcious we are meant to be inside in certain scenes and who's doing the extracting etc, again for specific scenes. Because at points I was confused as to whether Cobb was still the architect or it was constantly Ellen Page in every scene after he introduced her to the dream worlds.
One thing which really gripped me was that when they were inside someone else's dream, that person's subconcious knew that they weren't meant to be there and how this was reflected in the looks people gave them within the dream. I thought that was quite a scary concept. Cool though.

I'm just back from it. It was hard to follow in some parts, I'd have to watch it again to understand little bits that I didn't understand, although I understood most of it. I wasn't sure who's dream we were meant to be looking at sometimes but they regain consciousness and it clicks into place in most parts. Loved the ending, leaves it open to interpretation.

I saw it earlier today and it was extremely good. It's nice to see Ken Watanabe still getting work, he is very talented. Everyone else has already summed it up, so I will say no more other than you won't regret seeing this.

Saw it today, what a great film :D a bit confusing sometimes and hard to follow but really enjoyable
Just got back from it! It was fricken amazing! I'd recommend it to everyone :) One of my top films of 2010 so far.
Brilliant film. The concept of a dream within a dream.. within a dream really got me thinking.
I also loved the ending - the director is basically performing Inception himself by planting an idea in our minds and letting us think about it. I thought the effects were brilliant as well.

Intentional
Good lord what a masterpiece. Reminded me of some similar Kubrick elements.
I agree that it did successfully perform inception on the audience, as it does make you consider your very own existence.
I need a totem haha.

Well obviously it was intentional, it would hardly be an accident. :P
And I agree with you about the Kubrick elements, that's exactly what I was thinking!
