The last time I posted about this department was in December 2009 and it will full of complaints. Complaints of how lame the competitions were backed up by the low amount of entries.
Its great to see the department has improved a lot since then and have began posting better competitions which are simple and don't involve writing a essay.
Its also good to see the T&C has its own thread instead of a big block of text at the bottom of every competition.
My only idea is to promote competitions more with the help of Forum Management.
I can't think of any decent ideas right now apart from having a notification at the top weekly (like the one which appeared today for forum rules) and/or asking Admins to promote competitions in their signatures - as prizes are Forum VIP / Reputation a lot of the time.
But a big well done to the department and their manager Inseriousity. :).

Agreed. The competitions are more frequent, easy to enter, and the prizes are good too. It's so nice to see new competitions daily, and it really is great that members have something fun to do whilst on the forum. Some of the recent competitions have had some great ideas, and were really quite clever in my opinion, and I love the new shortened version of them compared to the old lengthy ones.
Advertising is always difficult, and making sure members know where the competitions are is crucial, so getting the message spread in signatures would be great I think.
Well done Mike, and all of the competitions team who work so hard. You are doing a fantastic job! :)

I had an idea about adding a "Competitions" tab to the nav bar that we expanded yesterday, I am awaiting feedback from General Management regarding this.
We could add notices about competitions but the fear is then that too many notices will crop up at the top, which is why I think a tab at the top may be better. At least at the moment whilst we already have two notices active.
Aside from that, well done to the competitions department,

I have to agree! There are now so many competitions going at once, I take my hat off to Inseriousity. who has managed to do this. It must of taken him some hard work but he has it sorted! Congrats!
I recently applied to become a member of the competitions department as I really want to join it. I've never worked as competitions staff before, ever, so I really want to see how it's run and to join a what I call, fantastic, department.
Once again, congratulations on getting the department going!

As I said in the PM you sent me, thanks for the lovely feedback! We're still nowhere near perfect (one step at a time!), we acknowledge this and we hope to work with the members to improve our weak areas, mainly advertising.
I'd like to thank the competitions staff who have worked hard despite all the changes I've thrown at them. Their commitment has helped make the transition a lot smoother than it could have been. I'd like to thank the members who have continued to enter Habbox Competitions, the amount of entries are consistently going up and it can't be done without people entering! I'd also like to thank Roxy who has to put up with a lot of arguments heated debate from me about ways to improve the department!
We're not going to slow down, we're going to keep going and we still need feedback to help us out! I think we'll get a tab at the top of the forum along with other possible advertising methods, watch this space! :)

Maybe you could bribe a few dj's to make some short adverts for the new competitions to play every so often or even get them to plug them live on air :) I am not sure how it is these days but in the past each department always seemed to work independently but perhaps each manager from each department could get together and discuss ways of how to promote each others department. (I know managers are very busy so could be somebody else). Some sort of mystery themed quest type thing with clues on habbo and set over every Habbox department running over a few weeks (Would get ppl who only use the forum or listen to the radio etc to give other areas of the site a try) Maybe do one of these every 3 or 6 months as long as the 1st one worked. You would need a good prize if you all got together to work on something big to make sure people took part. If this was going to happen I would gladly give 500/1000 creds to help in a prize fund.

Comp prizes have nothing to do with the department really.
More to do with kind donations from many pople but especially Jrh2002 and Miss Alice. Certainly helps HUGELY

Where is the list of donators for competitions? and how come each competition no longer says who donated the prize? There was a huge thread about this in the past and giving the donators a mention seemed to improve the amount given. Maybe you could even brand a competition with a room name or donators name if they donated a really good prize (A bit like the branding of football stadiums)

The DJs didnt like the idea of advertising HxHD so I doubt they would advertise competitions :P. Dont know why but they seem to hate advertising things.

Erm, the DJs do advertise HxHD? It's the other way around everyone complained about HxL partying in there. We also advertise events everyday but i think the jingle when we get them will be enough advertising for the competitions :P

In the last thread, alot of the DJs were annoyed when the idea of advertising on the radio came up. Ofcourse some DJs dont mind but a lot dont like the idea.
Great to see the new Competitions tab.

Let's just say... the last manager wasn't very good at keeping tabs of who donated what and tbh, now that general management tend to deal with donations, I'm not very good either! :P
I remember requesting a comps jingle and ,jess, was happy to help so I don't think there's any problem with hxl and advertising. plus when I spam their request line advertising (my non-jingle method), they tend to do it :D

When you have a help desk doing a job helping it is pretty bad when a radio party invades lol Departments would need to work together though and not expect HxL to advertise to much. There are a few internet radios that when you open up the site every time you get a random advert for say 10 seconds before the radio connects and that way the dj's would not have to do them.

I use to try Advertising the Competitions quite a bit, and even did competitons on the radio to get people to enter them.
Except it didn't seem to work. I just think most the listeners to Hxl can not bothered to hop on to hxf.

I know for a fact that there are many Habboxlive users who aren't users of Habboxforum or don't really know what a post is etc. This is then preventing them from entering competitions as you need to post/PM to enter and as I said, some don't know or can't be bothered to do that! However, a jingle would be good and Roxy and I were talking about it the other day to see how it was progressing, and should be here quite soon.
On the whole, thank you for such splendid comments! I'm glad those changes paid off as they were quite difficult to implement, not as a change but how competitions changed from December 2009 to January 2010. Our main priority now, however, is advertising. We're trying to make sure they're advertised more in events and hopefully that jingle will come! Thought I'd let you know so you understand where we're standing at the moment.
yeah i think mike has done an awesome job with the dept and the staff have pulled it together really well - alot of improvement and i enter them now LOL and actually won one once..
